Hi all..............I got a nice piece of glass a few years ago at a flea market. It is 15" long and weighes 46oz. It has a gold label that reads Focke&Meltzer-Amsterdam. I would greatly appreciate any info on this glass house and or glass. Many, many thanks......................Jerry

can I make out "Leerdam Unica" engraved on the bottom?
There's many more qualified on the board to comment but I think the "MA" would make it produced in 1957 and I'm guessing designed by Floris Meydam.....
-
Correct, that is a Leerdam Unica by Floris Meijdam from 1957. In that year he designed more than 3000 Unica, so these are not the rarest. What is nice to have is the original retailer's label. Focke & Meltzer were - I should say are - the main outlet shop for expensive glass.

Hi Ivo,
out of interest I assume "Meijdam" the correct Dutch spelling so why are pieces often engraved "Meydam"..?
-
Dutch write ij as y.
-
Thanks Frank,
...so in fact it's the reverse of my assumption and pronounced something like meh-ij-dam?.

My damn comes ~ close!
