Title: Bagley Wyndham trinket set variant?
Post by: agincourt17 on August 21, 2015, 01:19:47 PM
Here are some photos of a Bagley Wyndham trinket set in clear glass, marked with the ‘expected’ registered design number 790482 (registered by Bagley on 20 February 1934).

(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB and GTS sites granted by cueman147).

The rectangular lidded trinket pots and pin dish are in accord with those shown on the GTS site at
http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/english/bagley/wyndham-1333
BUT the tray and candlesticks are different.

The tray is an irregular octagonal ‘shield’ shape, with the ‘rays’ of the base radiating from the centre of the ‘top’ of the shield (as opposed to the rays radiating from the centre of the usual rectangular tray with cropped corners). The tray edges have the usual triangular sawtooth decoration. .

The candlesticks only have short, stubby stems instead of the longer, tapering stems of the ‘normal’ pattern candlesticks.

Is this a common variant of the Bagley Wyndham pattern? - I only have the first edition of Angela’s Bagley Glass book, and only the ‘usual’ 1333 version appears in that.

Does anyone have photos of this variant tray and candlesticks to show in other colours, please?

Fred.

How interesting, Fred! I have not seen this variant at all. Does the seller state if every piece has the Rd no.?
I have Bagley Glass v2 and v3 and the CD edition, I will check them all now.

Thank you, Anne.

I have contacted the owner of the set re. the RD numbers. and will pass the information on in due course.

The owner tells me that the tray is the only piece NOT marked with the RD number.

Thanks Fred. I've checked v2 and v3 of the Bagley book and the CD version and there is no mention of short candlesticks in the Wyndham pattern, not any mention of that shaped tray.

What Angela does say is that the Wyndham trinket set is only known in frosted colours (that was the case when the books were written), so finding an unfrosted clear one is interesting. I'll drop her a line and see if she can add anything to this topic. I'm sure she will be interested to see the clear set anyhow.

The CD text says, "This rare green Wyndham trinket set was registered 790482 for the 20th of February 1934, and had the number on each part. We have only seen it in frosted colour. "

There is a clear, unfrosted Wyndham part set with a 'normal' rectangular tray shown on the GTS site at
http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/english/bagley/wyndham-1333
 - top left of the group of thumbnails.

Well-remembered Fred, thanks, I'd forgotten that!  I made a note to mention it to Ang and had forgotten again with the the server migration catch-up stuff.  :-[

I'd totally forgotten this topic until I just ran a board search for Wyndham, having picked up the same tray recently from eBay. The difference being that my tray does have the RD number on it!  8)
