Title: Can you help identify this bowl:

19 sided base
16 pointed star in center
10 inches across the top
6 1/4 inches high
5 1/2 inches across the bottom.

Kind of a gray color
Lots of bubbles and imperfections.

Waterford says it isn't theirs.

Belonged to my mother. No clue when or where she bought it.

Help very much appreciated.

Good call! Actually, about 3 miles NE of the World Trade Center site.

is a nice start for researching cut glass from the American brilliant period.

Post by: glasswizard on November 07, 2005, 10:01:20 AM: The fact that you mention a grey color, bubbles and imperfections would tend to rule out Brilliant cut glass. The period known as Brilliant Period cut ran from 1880 to about 1915 depending on which author you read. The glass was very clear, free of bubbles and the designs were quite elaborate. This piece seems to be much later. Sorry can't be of much help though. Terry

I was thinking the same thing but for additional reasons. To me, stylistically this bowl does not say "American" to me. It looks more European - Germany?
