So, I wasn't looking specifically for trinket sets, and have no ideas of patterns, but came across a newspaper article from 10th April 1953, in the Sunderland Echo. It related to an attempted break-in at the Matthew Turnbull works in Sunderland.
One of the perpetrators, Dennis Conlin (21), is quoted as saying "My mate works there and knows the place. He was after trinket sets. I was drunk". ::)
So, whilst it doesn't help identifying unknowns, it at least indicates another manufacturer.

And Matthew Turnbull was a known supplier to Woolworths too, according to

Trinket Sets by Matthew Turnbull of Cornhill Glass Works Sunderland; another great piece of info to add to the GTS research project!

Wonderful! Well spotted Linz, thank you. Now to find catalogues / examples. :)

Apologies up front, as it doesn't feature any trinket sets.......
.... but there is a 1951 Matthew Turnbull catalogue viewable through Tyne & Wear Museums archives, for anyone who hasn't seen it. I've solved quite a few glass mysteries using the images and information therein :)

That they supplied Woolworths is also mentioned in PK, as follows: "They were dependant on F. W. Woolworth & Co. Ltd for their survival and lost the contract in 1953 and ceased trading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolworths_Group"
