Title: Mystery set 138
Post by: Eugénie on March 13, 2021, 02:39:12 PM
Just bought this ring holder.  Maker still unknown. It glows beautifully in the dark. Looking at Mystery set 138 I noticed I never had sent photos of the ring holders of that model. So herewith an overview. Anne feel free to use the photos for GTS

Hi Eugénie, Thank you for adding these, there is such a lovely range of colours. This is a set I've not yet seen in real life (only in photos) so I'm hoping to find examples of it some day!   Again, do you have larger images please as these are quite small for the site so tend to go blocky or fuzzy when enlarged.  If you have some they can come to me by email rather than posting on the board if that's easier? Many thanks as ever.

This model  is not rare "on the continent". Not often but once in a while I see parts of this set ( and ring holders in all kind of colours). Though not the green one....

I have a friend who is selling a tray that looks very much like the one in the photo of this set, but he has no other components from the set that he knows of. It's a very bright uranium green. Are the other peices in the photo a match or just a possible marriage. The photo is a touch unclear..  the tray and the ring tree - which is a definite match -is outstanding! Thx!

Hi Walden, until we find a catalogue image I can't be certain, but my gut feeling is that all the pieces go together. The lilac isn't a common colour in trinket sets either, so I'm pretty sure they all by the same maker, even if it does transpire that it's a "marriage" set.  Hope that helps. :)

Do you think it could be related to this set by VMG Walther, the candlestick, ring holder and the design of the rim of the tray look similar. I can't find much about VMG, I assume it stands for Vereinigte (United) ....... Glas.

Actually it's this. The colour chart is interesting. VMG was a sales association, Radeberg is mentioned.

Yes, well spotted Nev!

There is an Amethyst/Purple/Lilac glass set on Etsy in this design, including a Tumble Up (Karafe/Carafe and Cup/Beaker) 3 different sized Perfume/Cologne Bottles with stoppers, a ring tree which match Eugenie's ring trees, a lidded pot which also matches Mystery 138, and a pin dish. The stoppered bottles look pretty unmistakable compared to the 1931 catalogue image. The candlestick from the the mystery page also matches the catalogue image.
