Title: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: Anne on July 15, 2015, 09:31:06 PM
After our recent server move the GTS website is now back online. There is still some information to port over from the old server - mainly from the two big German makers, Brockwitz and Walther. The plan is to get those done next. Also the Mysteries are not yet online - as some are mysteries no more, thanks to all the input from you fabulous folks!

I also have a raft of information on new makers of trinket sets to add in - this is going to take time, so I will be doing it a bit at a time, hopefully you will see weekly progress after the site had stalled for a while, mainly due to family issues and workload.

Many of the images that I have been sent by email are now on the site (excepting the aforementioned German and Mysteries sections still to add). Thank you to everyone who has sent them to me, I think they are all credited but if I have missed a credit off an image and you want it on, please give me a nudge.

Christine, thank you, that's very kind of you. I'm sure it will fill in more than a few photo gaps.  :-*

I will have a look once I've finished adding the German sections off the old server. I'm pushing to get it all moved over before we switch that off at the end of the month so it has to be a priority. :)

Mysteries are back online, in a Gallery format to make them easier to see, and to let folks add images of new mysteries too.  Click the Mysteries link on any GTS page or go direct to http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery

Mystery set number 126 is by Ernst Buder pattern 570 on page 28 of the catalogue :)
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: agincourt17 on July 29, 2015, 10:22:05 AM
Thank you for the lead for IDing 'my' Mystery #126 set, Angela.

As you say, the lidded pot is indeed pattern 570 on page 28, and the candlesticks are pattern 350 on page 22, but I can't find a match for the tray yet - could easily be a mismatch I suppose, especially as all the pieces are in clear glass.

I will add ID notes to the comments section on the Mystery #126 section of Anne's GTS site shortly.

Fred.
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: Anne on July 29, 2015, 12:46:37 PM
Fred, I think the tray is Buder pattern 265 - the catalogue image isn't as detailed, but the lines and general appearance seem to match.  (Page 11 of the Buder catalogue.)

BTW the Buder section is the one I'm doing next! :)
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website

Thank you, Anne - I think your could well be correct. Please transfer the Mystery #126 pics to the identified Mysteries section and
I will edit my Mystery #126 files on GTS accordingly.

I will send another section of identified photos (including those from Ernst Buder) to your GTS DropBox soon.

Fred.

Anne & Fred  just looking at your mystery set 115 and realised I have the candlestick which I have identified as Walther  'Walzen' pattern 42756 in the 1933 catalogue.... the other pieces appear in the 1925 catalogue http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Walther-1925.77+B6YmFja1BJRD03NyZwcm9kdWN0SUQ9MzM1OSZwaWRfcHJvZHVjdD03NyZkZXRhaWw9.0.html  but the candlestick alters by 1933 http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Walther-1933.34+B6YmFja1BJRD0zNCZwcm9kdWN0SUQ9MTMxNyZwaWRfcHJvZHVjdD0zNCZkZXRhaWw9.0.html
the only odd piece is the tray ?? The tray looks a bit small could it be this water set tray perhaps....http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Walther-1904.40+B6YmFja1BJRD00MCZwcm9kdWN0SUQ9MTU1MyZwaWRfcHJvZHVjdD00MCZkZXRhaWw9.0.html

Think I may have an ID for another mystery set #012   http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/displayimage.php?album=15&pid=276#top_display_media     found the tray in Schwepnitz catalogue
http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Schwepnitz-1936.131+B6YmFja1BJRD0xMzEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTU2OTcmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTMxJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html    what do you think Anne ?
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: Anne on August 08, 2016, 01:38:20 AM
I think it's the closest match we've seen yet, Angela. :) There are slight variations, the ribs and base ring, which may indicate the catalogue one is a nibble / hors d'oeuvres tray, but I'd definitely be looking for more Schwepnitz catalogues to see if we can match the set up there.

I've done a comparison view using Pamela's catalogue image and a photo of the tray from the GTS website, hopefully Pamela may have some thoughts too.

Further to our discussion about mystery set #012 looking closer at the Schwepnitz catologues I found the candlestick...see here Anne http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Schwepnitz-1936.131+B6YmFja1BJRD0xMzEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTU2OTEmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTMxJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html   I had a repkg from Pamela who agrees it is a probable id the tray was a divided dish but very similar to the trinket set tray...she also pointed out the link between Schwepnitz and Walther which would explain the nice quality of this set.

Angela, this looks like the tray  from the GTS mystery set #113  http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=118
with the lidded pots and an atomiser from GTS mystery set #031  http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=34

Seems to be the same colour blue for all the pieces, so perhaps #113 and #031 from the same manufacturer?

Fred.

Haha well done Anne....talking of Schwepnitz I think I have further confirmation that mystery set #012 is by Schwepnitz and called Rippen see catalogue picture of candlestick here http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Schwepnitz-1936.131+B6YmFja1BJRD0xMzEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTU2OTEmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTMxJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html
which looks like one in you pjcs of mystery set 012 http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=15
that along with the similarity of the mystery tray and the Schwepnitz divided tray http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Schwepnitz-1936.131+B6YmFja1BJRD0xMzEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTU2OTcmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTMxJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html
what do you think ????
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: Anne on March 31, 2017, 05:28:53 PM
I think that's looking very positive, Angela. If we can find the trinket set in a catalogue it would clinch it for certain. :)

To summarise:

There are under Mystery set #012 two different candlesticks. One appears to be Rippen, the other isn't and has a flange below the cup, along with a patterned shaft and a differently shaped base. So, either the pattern was amended for some reason, or there is another pattern name for the flanged version.

The tray is a match for the Asta kabaret tray as we've looked at before but we've not found an Asta tray without the dividers.

We have not found the lidded pots or the ring holder in a catalogue so far.

Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website
Post by: Anne on April 12, 2017, 11:23:22 PM
I found a clearer version of the label that Leonie's piece carries, so we can see what it says better. Interestingly it does not say Sowerby, just TYNESYDE GLASSWARE MADE IN ENGLAND, so I wonder if pieces so labelled were made for a certain outlets?

The same label was seen on a Sowerby cucumber dish.  The more usual round label with Sowerby's on it may be seen in GlassGallery here: http://www.yobunny.org.uk/glassgallery/displayimage.php?pos=-9999 (http://www.yobunny.org.uk/glassgallery/displayimage.php?pos=-9999)

I have also now found Leonie's label on a full set of Sowerby 2552 butterfly pattern (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vanity-Dressing-Table-Set-/292053446891).... interesting!

Good job Anne.

A couple of things on the Mystery GTS site:

Mystery 165 and 118 are the same set.

Mystery 161 has a mismatched tray and all other pieces belong to Mystery 7.

Mystery 7 appears to have 1 mismatched green pot.

Sorted I think, Jayne. It's not just me that uploads them and I know we tend to lose track of which patterns we already have uploaded to a mystery album. I end up bug-eyed trying to check them out, so having a second pair of eyes looking at them is immensely helpful, thank you. :)

Haven't got very far yet, but happily haven't found many that aren't going where they should either.

I've only clicked the "Forward To" button and have used ">" below.

Inwald

Pompeii > Crane:  Button says SPIRALWALZEN.
Set 9439 > 11414:  Button says and returns to Inwald.
Set 12032 > 8820 Crane.

Reich

Victoria:  No > button.  Only < B2571.
Set 8998 > 9020: 9020 not on the side-bar.  Forward To button goes to the top part of 8998 and from there > 9023.

Hope this helps, will do more later and let you know what I find.
Dave.

Post by: Anne on March 19, 2019, 10:38:50 PM
Thanks Dave, the issue is with the sorting in the back end. I need to find where to set the order for each category, which means hunting through pages of settings. The script we use has multiple ways of doing the same thing, which makes life interesting. It's hugely powerful though but occasionally throws up this type of issue. That was why I'd not used the back/next buttons before but I decided it was time to get to grips with them. :)

Excellent - the Royal photos are displaying properly for me too.  ;D

But...  ::) I spotted another thing.

On the Brockwitz tabs, the side menu lists the numbers in numerical sequence, but the back and forward tabs are sorting by alphanumeric string.

So, as an example, the tabs go in the order 3100, 3200, 32000, 3329...

It does make the site much more user friendly though.  :)
Title: Re: Glass Trinket Sets website

From Sowerby to Brockwitz  (as far as I've got)  the buttons have moved to the top of the pages.  Up to and including Joblin they were at the bottom.

Bernsdorf

Renate:  No > 2121/B.

I also found the same numeric listing in Brockwitz as mentioned by LinzH above.

Sorry to add to your woes Anne, but I spotted another couple of necessary tweaks this morning (what can I say, I use your site a *lot*  ;D)

Walther>Globus
Quote
Warning
Folder: :files: path is not a folder.
Path:
/data01/gtsweb/public_html/cms3/images/walthe
/
I'm afraid the size of the display box cut off the end of the text, so I couldn't get the full path name.

Also had the same message on Walther>Kopenhagen

And Walther>Münster isn't displaying the image at the top, just the ? in a box.

Best wishes,

The back and next buttons being moved was deliberate, Dave, and should be at the top of every page now.  The Brockwitz numbering had been fixed, I am still working through the rest as I get time. Thanks to you both for keeping flagging up the miss-links, it helps enormously.

Lindsey, thanks, I will look at that when I get home tonight.  8)

Edited to update: the Walther Globus, Kopenhagen and Münster images all sorted, thanks again. :)

PS I am so glad that you use the site such a lot, and am really thrilled others do too.  :-*

From Sowerby to Brockwitz  (as far as I've got)  the buttons have moved to the top of the pages.  Up to and including Joblin they were at the bottom.

Bernsdorf

Bernsdorf sorted, thanks Dave.  8)

Rudolfova > 11771-3 & 11914-5 - The image is not loading, just the [?]

Also on the next page, 12811-12812, I'm not sure if there is meant to be an image or not (it's blank) but usually you state "catalogue image not available", or similar.

bws,

Thanks Lindsey, fixed the image for the first one (folder path was wrong). Removed the 12811-12 page as it duplicated what is already on the 12731-12736 12811-12812 page. :)

Spotted a couple of bloopers in the Inwald category.  ;)

on the "9439, 9440" page, the back button points to "8820 "Crane"" & the next button points to "Inwald"

on the "12032" page, the back button points to "11771" & the next button to "8820"

Thanks Lindsey, I'll look at those over the next couple of days. :)

Sorted; the oddity in numbering is because the site sorts the back and next by strict first number order followed by alpha order. So as it's a dumb system 11000 comes before 8000! So I have to reorganise the menu listing to match the back - next sort order.

I'm not sure if this trick will work on the software you are using for your site, but I had similar issues on a system I used to work on when I was in IT many moons ago.

The work around was to have two variables, one which was used for the sort and the other for the display.  So in the case of pattern 8000, it would be held as 08000 for the sort and 8000 for the display.  That way 08000 would be sorted before 11000, but 8000 would be displayed on the screen.

It's to do with the alphanumeric values of the individual characters in the string.  It always looks at the left most character first, then the next and the next.

I'm not even sure if that makes sense reading it back, I mean it does to me, but not sure if it will to anybody else!  ???

But Inwald is all looking good, with forward/back displaying in the same order as menu  :)

Yep, I know exactly what you mean Lindsey, but it would mean a change to the site script and it's running on Joomla. If I'd created it from scratch I'd have done as you suggested.  So long as it works as is I'm happy. :)

I've added a bit more info to Century Glass page and added in a Stoelzl page as well.  Still loads more to come in between other stuff!

Just noticed an errant 9020 on the main side menu after "Swedish".  Clicking on it takes you to a Reich pattern.

Sorted, thanks Lindsey, it was a duplicated entry and exists under Reich as well.

Not for the first time I've seen this "set" being advertised on ebay.uk. --  item number 193241626274.

It seems people are taking the photos on the Buder 510 set a bit too literally!

Perhaps a footnote might help?

I can't see anything on the listing claiming the set as Buder 510?

Sorry, I didn't mean that they were saying it is the 510 set by Buder.

But that they are putting the same items as shown in some of the photos together and saying that they are a set.

I'm assuming they were the only available pictures of known examples of Buder at the time they were up-loaded but they are a mixture of pieces from several different sets.

Hi all, I just wanted to flag up that, thanks to Mike Tomlin allowing access to his fabulous Sowerby catalogues on the Victorian Pressed Glass (http://www.victorianpressedglass.com/sowerby_archive.htm) website, I have been able to add several new patterns to this section, and to positively identify pattern numbers and names for the sets listed as Tynesyde #2, #3 and #4. Also many of the catalogue images have been updated to larger clearer versions. Now the hunt is on to find photos to show each set on the relevant page - can you help?

The new and updated patterns are:

1107, a set from 1892,

2439 "Norwich" - similar to "Minor",

2478 "Maid" pattern confirmed (formerly mystery #099),

2487 - set with pin-tray and set with ring-holder,

2501 - earlier set with flared candlesticks, later set with smaller upright candlesticks,

2522 Diamond - "County" with the 2522 candlesticks (formerly mystery #053)

2590 (formerly thought to be a variant of 2636),

2612 - (formerly mystery #003),

2636 - (formerly mystery #015),

2630 has variant candlesticks confirmed,

2636 - (formerly mystery #015),

2707 - (formerly mystery #175),

Berkley - not one I've seen before,

Beverley - an unusual set with the 2501 tray and the standalone candlestick (formerly mystery #049),

Bute, similar pattern to Beverley but with the Tynesyde tray,

Cadet - confirmation of the 2510 tray with this set and the large pot with finial,

Countess (7 piece) and Regal (5 piece) - with the Tynesyde variant tray,

Manchester - similar to taller candlesticks, shorter candlestick set also available as Manchester which matches 2487,

Toby (7 piece) and Plaza (5 piece) - with the 2501 tray and Bute pots and candlesticks,

Tynesyde - a narrower oval tray as used in Countess and Regal sets,

These catalogues are a treasure trove, I'd like to add my thanks to Mike Tomlin for making them available! Also thanks to you Anne, I can see you've done loads of hard work both on here and GTS.

Now for me to have a good study of all the info and fab images, and see if I can add anything useful.  :)
