Title: Caithness commission for Marks & Spencers
Post by: cfosterk on January 28, 2008, 06:55:42 PM
A friend had emailed me to say they've picked up a Caithness paperweight (abstract of course) which is marked "Marks & Spencer" 1987.

It's boxed and the box states "by appointment to HM The Queen Mother" - I presume royal patronage applied after the visit in 1986.

Does anyone know anything about this item? Anyone got reflections for 1987 or 1988 as there may be something in there....

Certainly not in the Charlton guide (or the first edition I have).

Obviously Royal Visits were always considered worth a report in the Reflections magazine. Commissioned weights were reported only occasionally - I would assume that the large majority of commissioned weights did never show up in the magazine. I have checked issues up to 1990 - no mention of a Marks&Spencer weight.

It would be good to get pics for the catalogue if possible.

They are in Pudsey - about thirty miles away - so may well require a visit!!!
