Oh, great that this is being continued, I saw some awesome collections in the former posts, great stuff!
Here's mine, a 1950s Cabinet:
on top: anything too tall to be inside of the cabinet:)
1. row: Scandinavian Glass,
2. row: Italian glass,
3. row: mix of mostly unidentified spanish, german or italian glass
-
Great cabinet, a.mar.illo! I love the drawers...
Now, just to show that I can 'do' some colour, here is part of my Czech pressed glass display... a few weeks ago, my grumpy 'ol husband was a bit less grumpy and built me two display units for my glass, this being one of them. It's still partially empty. ;D

  See, he loves you!!
Now nobody put any of those PW in the Window Sill. I think Rosie *should* also attach that pic here of *what* can happen if a display (in the window) is not rotated, or one is not careful with the powers of Glass + and Sun :sun: Worthy to mention here too with Photo, IMHO
-
Nice eclectic collection amarillo. By the way what is that nice mulberry glass vase at the right hand side of the top shelf - can't read the label.
Anik I like your collection also and I am wondering if any of the clear, rippled pieces have a flat base or are they all "dished" in c.1cm?
Ross
-
Hi Ross,
I don't quite know which rippled pieces you're referring to, but of all the clear vases in that particular display unit, all are 'dished' to varying depths with the exception of the tall, slim Pavel Panek vase (third shelf from the top on the right hand side, middle vase). That one's got a star bottom.
:hi:
-
I was specifically referring to the top left shelf and the large vase on the 4th shelf down on the right.
Ross
-
Ahhh, I see... the vases you are referring to were all designed by Frantisek Peceny, and all have got a raised rim surrounding a smooth depression. :)
-
Thanks Anik,
that's a beautiful czech collection!
Ross, thanks!
The one with the tiny label, on the right top shelf (inside) is by Reijmyre, Sweden
(the one on the very top on the right is Aseda, Sweden)
-

Do you mean this one Rose??
The burned marks on the wooden windowsill were caused by the sun's rays being focussed through orb shaped paperweights like this one, so beware!!
-
Rosie, I LOVE your beaver!!! Errrr... I mean your glass beaver. ;D ;)
Who made it, please?
-
Hi Anik :hi:
He is lovely, isn't he.....made by Langham Glass House....quite unusual....I have only ever seen 2 of them.
You made me laugh, because I was going to say 'You will be pleased to know that I have put my beaver on view in a safer place.' But decided not to because I thought it had ambiguous overtones! (& I was worried the Paul & jp would comment!! :o)
-
Ambiguous overtones? Nah...
If I had such a beautiful beaver, I'd also put it in full view for all to admire. Gorgeous piece!
-
St. John's Crystal in the Isle of Man has been 'in the news' a lot on the GMB, so I thought you would like to see some!!
Here are some 'ellies' from the St. John's Crystal Isle of Man Glass Studio for you all to enjoy.........

It has been a while since I dropped by - I hope everyone had a great summer.
I enjoyed a thread that was here where folks were showing their glass displays. What I saw of it I enjoyed and wanted to share mine but could not find the thread. I have posted pics of my display on my blog - if you wish, take a look: http://bohemianglasscollector.blogspot.com/ (http://bohemianglasscollector.blogspot.com/)
I hope you all find some great pieces this fall!
Mac
-
I love the shelving units by the fireplace -- what an original design! And your glass is beautifully displayed. Thank you for sharing. :)
-
I am having camera issues at the moment but I have been meaning to post some pictures to this thread from the start so here is my themed Whitefriars FLC gold shelf. Above is generic Whitefriars (apart from the impostor penguin) and below is Czech glass (not that you can really see them!). I will take some proper pictures when my camera is working but thought I would share this phone picture of my favourite shelf in the meantime.
There is probably too much weight for a glass shelf but I like to live dangerously!
-
:hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp: What a fabulous selection of glass.   Envy you the chance to see so much. Not much here and often ridiculously expensive.
Ross
-
Jeffington lovely pieces and I like the greens particularly, they show off well.
Gorgeous collection Nemmie but :o I'd be seriously scared of a major collapse.
m
-
Good Morning Mac, :hi:
What a wonderful display to wake up to this morning......beautifully arranged, and not a speck of d*st in sight......I like the pottery as well, but please don't inspire me to start collecting anything else!! :sun:
-
 Mac, that's absolutely the perfect display :sun: - very jealous.
m
-
The theme you were thinking of is currently http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,42591.0.html which has been split to avoid computer problems. I am sure that many members would like to see your collection - would you be willing to repost to that topic?
Ross

quote from Rosie............."I have put my beaver on view in a safer place.' But decided not to because I thought it had ambiguous overtones! (& I was worried the Paul & jp would comment!! Shocked)"............................I have been asked to make it clear that both jp and Paul are reformed characters - and must not under any circumstances be confused with any other innuendo hurling smutty recidvists on this board who might go under the same names - well, at least jp is. And we like your drawers too, Anik. ;) :wsh:
-
Paul, you must have got me confused with someone else... I don't have drawers. I prefer the freedom of airy openness. ;D
-
Wonderful glass. Don't like the picture over the mantel at all. Right hand set of shelves, second shelf up from the bottom, piece on far left of shelf is not Bohemian, it is American, made by Dugan.
-
Anik! :o Modesty is everything. :-[
Perhaps you could invest some of your refunded 25zl in some new drawers? :sun:
These look as though they might lend themselves to the 'airiness' you appear to crave! 150652567677 although you don't get much for your money!! >:D
Ooooooooooooooh! I can see we'll be sent to the Café!! :t: :wsh:
-
Oh my! (http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0067.gif) (http://www.celebrityfashionarchive.com)
I haven't a clue what type of drawers you weird bunch are thinking about, but I was referring to my drawer-less display unit. See? Airy openness.

Oh Anik, I am SO sorry.....I gave you the wrong number :-[....this is what I meant:

I'll add this into the other topic for you Mac.
-
Thank you Anne for putting this into the right thread.
Thank you all for your comments.
Paulbowen – I don’t know what to say except thank you for sharing your feelings about my taste in art...lol.
If you would like to know more about the artist his name is Tony Sherman.
And yes you are correct there are some Dugan pieces in the collection and one Swedish piece.
Mac
-
Just want to see if my computer is working ::) ::)
Yep! ;D ;D
-
great colours Keith, and you did get that blue topped piece of Webb's 'Flair' -
-
Not 'Flair' Paul, marked Webbs not sure which range, was more pleased with the small uranium 'wave' vase.my first piece out of around 30 ;D ;D
-
:hi:
Thanks for sharing all the wondeful glass collections folks.
My lot, some beauties i think, but not in the same class as everyone elses.
All oppie finds including the cupboard $45 au :hiclp:
(http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu120/kerry-ann_03/glass020.jpg)(http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu120/kerry-ann_03/glass019.jpg)(http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu120/kerry-ann_03/glass017.jpg)
Hope you enjoy looking, sorry about poor pict quality or lack off :ooh: :wsh:
cheers
-
oops. beg pardon Keith - and I guess qualification for 'Flair' is the swirl of bubbles - however, a very nice piece whatever it is, and that blue is almost cobalt. Please remember me in your will ;D See you have a pair of Czech. 'Candle Wax vases designed by Frantisek Peceny - I didn't know you collected Czech.
Nice collection kk, obviously you do very well from the 'oppie' shops - is that a cut glass water jug on the lower shelf? Having worked the charity shops in the U.K. for a number of years - I am convinced that the amount of quality finds here is most definitely now 'down' on what it was a year or so back, and when they find a good piece the price does escalate, and it's now almost as cheap to rummage around in bottom end antiques shops.
The attached is not part of a themed collection, but just something I found at the beginning of this week (at the back of a dusty antiques shop) to show that you can still find good pieces at prices to suit.......the four cost me Sterling £40 (I managed to get the guy down a bit, Emmi ;)). Fortunately, I recognized them instantly, and they do all have the Sowerby 'peacocks head' - and for their age are in almost perfect condition and produce a nice green glow. They are Sowerby Queen's Ivory Ware.
-
Paul I like those! they are very appealing shapes and I like the glass - especially like the pinched one on the left.
m
-
thanks m...........I'd not seen this Queen's Ivory before - but it's very 'more ish' so to speak, and the impressions are really sharp. These pieces are all shown in Raymond Slack's book on pressed glass - the open dishes are described as Oriental, and the three cornered fruit bowl has dophins supporting the corners.

Paul,
I think you are correct. I have seen some items sit for months and months at charity shops here as they are above market value. I wish some sensible employee would drop the price so the item sells so the charity gets real benefit from the item.
Here's my latest treasure from a bottom end antique shop and it was about the same cost as my morning cake and coffee!
In a whimsical way I'm referring to it as Iris, as the platter reminds my of an eye!
Cheers
Meegs
-
What a delightful find Meegs. I am indeed  with envy.
Some nice bits in there Kitty-Kat you have been looking hard. Welcome to yet another Aussie - keep showing finds won't you. The one thing for sure is that the taste of people (for glass - just so you don't think I am a cannibal) is amazingly eclectic.
Ross
-
Charity shops around here mark the price label with the week it was put out on the shelves. Then two, three or four weeks later (depending on the charity) the price is reduced.
-
Meegs...... Great find... I love Etling pieces like that.....
Craig
-
Mac, I absolutely love your artwork, and have looked him up! Amazing :hiclp: If anyone else wants to search it is best to search Tony Scherman with a 'c' in it.
m
-
Thanks for the correction on Tony Scherman. That is what I get for typing too fast.
Mac
-
:hi: Paul S,are you talking about one off these
-
yes kk, and thanks for the blown up images :) - it was the shorter of these two water jugs that I thought was possibly a piece of cut glass - but I was mistaken as it appears to be pressed, now that I can see them more clearly (are they in fact both pressed?). However, very nice and of course quite useable. Did you manage to find an attribution for them??
-
Not sure where to begin...

Very nice, that lamp on the left in the second photo looks familiar ;)
What's the large piece on the stand in the fifth picture..? looks like a substantial piece.

I LIKE paperweights...

Almost done...

I wish I could have put them all on one link but am still learning(on my own). So hope you all enjoy as much as you can see...
Tony
-
The large piece in the corner is sometimes referred to as the door stop by Rollin Karg...it is really beautiful in full light and up close. I will try to download a better pic from my phone.
-
Very nice, great pieces of Kralik   and did I spy some Peking glass and cloisonne vases?
-
OMG!! Tony, what a collection! :rah: Thank you for sharing. It makes those of us who have every surface in the house covered in glass feel relatively normal.....BUT......a lot of us have glass in the loo.....how about you? You have showed us a lot of rooms, but not the loo. ( I think in USA you call it the bathroom!!?? :usd:)
Do you do all the d**ting yourself?? *
* The 'D' word is forbidden on this message board!! :ac1:
-
Well of course I have glass in the loo but not a lot so it did not make the post.
I also collect porcelain, china, pottery, vintage art etc...so a lot of glass did not
make the post due to it's location. But glass is my passion, glad you enjoyed the
pics. I'll try to get more close-ups of particular pieces for many did not come out
as-well-as I would have liked them to be seen. :)
I am not sure I Know what the "D" word is. Oh wait a minute now I know...the answer
is of course, it gives me a chance to admire my things in all their glory. :thud:
Funny you should ask, it is the 1st thing that comes out of anybodies mouth that
comes to visit. ::)
-
Yes I have several Peking vases which one day I hope to post separately for a little more info on them.
Most of them do not even show up in the pics. As for the cloisonne there are many more but that is not for this site. ;)
-
Well Tony, I like the euphemism of 'admiring' your glass....I think we will have to adopt that word in place of the 'D' word!! You are welcome to 'admire' my glass any time......cloth in hand. You are right though, it does give you a chance to admire your glass, and boy, yours is very admirable.
This thread originated with a posting by Astrid: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,39041.0.html
It got so long with many many members showing their collections, usually as a 'Theme', that it was divided in to three parts, and is still being added to.
In-between 'admiring' your collection, you might enjoy starting at the beginning and going through the different themes. Astrid displays some wonderful themes on her windowsill, which she changes regularly.........which reminds me, Astrid, are you doing another one soon? Please. :)
-
Need some *fall* colors display -- with Red, Golds, Browns, etc.
Leaves are falling here. Anyone doing a Glass Fall display at there home? Or have a Glass Horn of Plenty to include in the fall theme? Robert Held little glass leaves would make a Nice Fall theme, and color, IMHO.
-
Fall...
-
Tony, it's wonderful to see so much glass displayed throughout the house... thank you for taking the time to take photos and sharing. Love your enthusiasm! I'm glad you've joined the GMB.
:hi:
-
Me Too!!
I daresay you know a lot more about glass than you modestly admit to and will be able to help others identify their glass as well.
Happy days. :sun:
-
There's the Pottery & collectables forum,a relative to this site if you have any other non glass items you need to post ;D( i would like to see a couple of close ups of your cloisonne, also a passion of mine ;D ;D
-
Keith, I also like Cloisonne(particularly Japanese) how do I get to the Pottery & Cloisonne sites?
Ross
-
Ross; I'm having trouble with my PC,I'm sure a kind moderator will post you a link and hope to see some of your Eastern collection ;D ;D

Keith, I also like Cloisonne(particularly Japanese) how do I get to the Pottery & Cloisonne sites?

how about old brass weights - anyone know anything??? - I have one that is marked (stamped) in several places with various Standards/legal marks, I can see. I picked this up - from a boot sale - might be very early C18, but I haven't yet made an effort to id. Would it be worthwhile/acceptable to put this on the collectables site.??
-
Yep, we cover everything except glass and large furniture Paul.
-
Many thanks Anne - I now have to find the piece, and frankly it's so bothery hot this afternoon that it might take me a while, but I will definitely locate it. In the meantime, and being in need of adulation and worship - I have now finished slaving over a hot mallet and chisel, so from the depths of greenest Surrey (U.K.) I bring you my 'Drinking Glass Cabinet Mk. 1' - just forget the glass it's the lovely warm colours of West African Mahogany (I think it's Okoume) that you need to see. Just in case anyone thinks I bought the wood - I did in fact rescue a shed load of the stuff when there was a local shop-front being dismantled and skipped - so I removed it from the skip. - it breaks my heart to see such wonderful material being thrown away. I have enough to make a dozen of these (if I live that long) ............and the glass isn't bad either :)
-
Paul, what a beautiful cabinet....WoW!!.....and the glasses are rather nice as well!!
I had no idea you were skilled in cabinet making....do you take commisions?....I have 500+ glass animals needing a home, and that style of cabinet would be absolutely perfect. ;D
-
Oh, Paul! Finally, an honest-to-goodness display. Very impressive. :kissy:
-
Unfortunately, Rosie, I have so many glassy things to do in life, plus the bookbinding, plus the gardening, plus the D.I.Y, plus being Lothario etc. that I would quite literally never get around to fullfiling any orders, and the few pieces I do make are simply gifts within the family. I have on occasions looked at producing the odd item to sell (blanket box sort of thing) but commercially these items can be bought now so cheaply that no one would ever pay the sort of prices that I would need to charge. It isn't the cost of the materials that is the issue, generally - I have a reclamation yard locally and can buy old floorboards etc. very cheaply, rather it's the cost of my labour which kills the bottom line. You must have a local carpenter able to produce something similar, surely. Don't I seem to remember that some time in the past 12 months you did acquire some new cabinet/s??
This one is in fact too shallow for the Wedgwood goblets (which have to be turned sideways so that I can close the doors :-[), and the Mk. 2 (already part made) will be deeper.
thanks Anik - finally, approval from Krakow - I do believe I have arrived ;)
-
Only kidding Paul....as you know, I have a hubby that can make most things and my daughter's partner is a bespoke cabinet maker, so it was just that it was the highest compliment I could pay you to mention it at all.
You are right, I have just got 2 new cabinets, but they are already overfilled.
Your glasses do look stunning in that cabinet though, and I hope you will show us the next one when it is finished.
-
Paul, that is beautiful and the colour is glorious. It must also be gratifying to be able to make a bespoke piece that isn't as wide as all shelves seem to be. I find it irritating trying to find the right shelves and often wish they were less deep. I'm sure the next set will be perfect for your goblets.
m
-
This is my Monart cocktail cabinet collection.
Gary
-
looks very desirable Gary - very 'deco' - and one of my favourite styles. :)
thank m - would agree there are plenty of display cabinets around with much deeper shelves - especially in places like the Heart Foundation furniture stores, but seems almost impossible to find pieces with a narrow depth like this one - I guess there are not so many people who collect drinking glasses.
-
Hi
I have finally got enough small animals to show. Hope you like .
-
Paul, your bespoke cabinet is lovely! I have a huge collection of drinking glasses too and have never thought of narrow shelves like that for them... I may need a bigger house to find enough wall space though. :(
-
Nice collection Trebor....I especially like the frosted little bunny in the first picture.....very nice, and is that a Kangaroo in the amethyst colour?
Thank you for sharing these, I really like glass animals and birds more than any other type of glass....except my Komaromy pieces, of course! :sun:
-
:smg: Well at last I can join in our united celebration of all things glass!! Having been up and down figuratively speaking for the last 15 or so months I have now found my lovely home and can display a few of my long packed up treasures. Any question s welcome. regards Carol
-
Just for you Rosie
-
Thank you trebor....is that an ant on the snail? ou can't help but smile to look at that collection. :)
-
Hi Rosie no its a mouse
-
Oh! Well we had big snails in Africa, but I never saw one with a mouse on its back!! :o
-
Carol it's fab to see some of your collection all together now :hiclp:
Is it an owl on the left of the top shelf? Is it glass :o
I love the iridescent pieces as well.
m
-
oh, come on Rosie, anyone can see that its Mickey. ;D Nice collection Carol - is the blue vase a piece of W/Fs??
-
Greetings people, Paul the blue vase on the bottom shelf- yes it is although a bit wobbly. The others are Hineri and Orrefors (Cut down decanter)
Flying free, the bird is a lovely pottery one with the most supercilious down the beak look on its face, possibly by Elizabeth Lissaman but it is signed Grehan on its base. I have another shelf to fill at the top- so many boxes to go through!!!
regards from a cloudy but nice Hawkes Bay-Carol
-
Well instead of shoving yet another box in a corner I decided to take an item or three out of hiding, so the top shelf is, for the moment, occupied. Hope you all like them, also an up close and personal picture of the big bird with friends.
Sun now shining- regards Carol
-
(http://serve.mysmiley.net/love/love0001.gif) Love all the posts here. Great Collections !! :hiclp:
-
Carol, that's a lovely mdina? vase and that bird is stupendous :sun:
-
flying free- the bird is something isn't and yes that is a Mdina globe vase. regards Carol
-
We're moving lots in the house around, so whilst I was doing so, I thought I'd take a pic of one of my 'groups' -
painted/enamelled/printed glass display.
m
-
like the 'tango' m - very attractive. :)
-
Flying free, lovely vases- I have restricted myself to non decorated items but did weaken for my milk glass enameled vase but nothing compared to your lovely collection. Keep them coming folks! Carol in a cloudy NZ

Hi there:
Anyone doing a Seasonal (Xmas) type of glass display with maybe Reds, greens, golds, or whatever?
Would be Nice to see some?

:sg:Well I was going to save this image for a query but I will share it with yous guys for fun. How many naked angels can you fit in to a Whitefriars goblet- and I was not even trying!!
Seasons greetings to all on the message board from a sunny New Zealand-Carol
-
I have just had the time to put together a new display of bright colours. Not Christmas themed - Finnish & Whitefriars.
Top of Cabinet = Various Finnish glass - Nuutajarvi Notsjo, Riihimaki, & Iittala in no particular sequence.
Top Shelf = Riihimaki except for the Kaj Franck (Nuutajarvi Notsjo) vase centre front.
Middle Shelf = Riihimaki the 6 items to the left, Whitefriars the rest
Bottom Shelf = Whitefriars
Enjoy, Ross
-
:-[ Damn, pushed the wrong button again. :pb:
Ross
-
Also had 4 Whitefriars pieces I could not find to fit in. :-[

Same old, same old from me.....

Flying Free there is a small vase on the left hand side just in front of the decanter. It is pink & blue and sort of "Turkish" in decoration. Do you have an attribution for it? It seems very similar to a vase I have. I have seena small ball vase - similar to yours attributed as follows "The Moroccan Tapestry Pattern appears in the 2000 price guide of Antique Trader "American and European Decorative and Art Glass," on page 188, where it is attributed to Thomas Webb. ". I wondered if you had a better attribution.
Ross
-
Hi Ross
No I don't at the moment. The Great Glass site had a note on there (if I recall correctly) that they had been thought to be Bohemian in origin, but current thoughts are that they may have been produced in the UK and decorated by French enamellers who had immigrated into the UK during the mid? 1800's and settled in the West Midlands (or something similar to that). They comment that Cyril Manley had thought these were British. I have seen these attributed to Thomas Webb via the same attribution source you quote, but so far everything I've seen on them has been attribution rather than a definitive id. Mine is signed and numbered on the base.
They are exquisitely enamelled, very pretty pieces, but I'm no further ahead and I've searched extensively on that one. I'll go see if I can find the Great Glass piece they wrote to quote here for future ref (edited - I've modified my reply above now).
m
-
John...Never thought I would envy another mans toilet, but your Mdina collection ( if it is indeed in the loo ) is fantastic, I could spend a lot of time in there!!!
-
In the process of re-arranging the 'English Collection' the results so far.......
-
Keith they look fab all together - the colours and shapes really work well. Ross, I do think that of all the glass I own, the Riihamaen and Sklo Union pieces make the best displays - your Riihiamen pieces look great.
m
-
I don't know who you all live with so many pieces together!!!... :smg:
I find it straining, but so many great pieces and such and ecleptic mix of designers...well done... :hiclp:
-
Thanks "m" I have only relatively recently started collecting Finnish glass and I reckon the coloured stuff is fabulous - as you say it display's so well. I have not got into SKLO because yopu see so little on our Ebay so I suspect there is not a lot out here - but of course I may be very wrong.
My favourite glass style is basically iridescent - obviously started by buying Colin Heaney in the early days and graduating to Orient & Flume (wish I could afford much more) and Isle of Wight, Okra, etc., etc. I do like "Latticino" my first piece ever was a lovely vine leaf shape. Finally I love good crystal and Kosta Boda Glass.
Ross
PS. If time permits I will try to put up a Scots theme for Hogmanay (31st December)
-
I'm having a Duvet Day 'cos I have got Girl Flu and so having a look back through all these wonderful displays is a special treat.... and your last displays are fab.....John, who made the pieces on the middle two shelves of your top picture.....I like thos very muchly.
And Ross. you know you have good taste if it is the same as mine!! Or should that be the other way around??
Rosie.
-
Just started buying glass a couple of months ago, here in Iceland there are not seo many fleamarkets but I think I have had some luck.
Got a couple of czech glass pieces as well not pictured
and I really hafe to find out how to take better pictures of the glass!

I had not really checked the set yet, it was owned by my late father in law whom I never met.
I guess I should have said something about the vases and bottles on the first picture,, the emerald bottles I know nothing about, the colorour is really dark emerald, then there is a Ingrid glass ( I gather from a post a saw somewhere on this board), the 2 aquamarine vases look like brothers but I suspect they are not vintage at all, but I love this color on glass.
The amber vase is czech, the purple one I am looking for an ID and then there is the Walther glass vase.
And yes..this it TOO much fun
-
I like my loo too. ::) If I had somewhere else for books I could squeeze in more glass....
Rosie, the middle shelves are filled with Erik Hoglund beasties, individual photos of them all are here in this album: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/ErikHoglund

Yes, Helga, welcome to you...... :hi:
That's a gorgeous decanter set and Pamela is our Pressed Glass Guru, so it is always worthwhile having a look through her website, but you will need a big cup of coffee, 'cos it is enormous, fascinating and very very addictive!
You are tantalising me with the little peek of more glass on the bottom shelf.........any chance of seeing them please? :)
Thank you John, aren't they fun!?......I will have to keep a look out for some....the ellie and hippo would look good in my collection.....trouble is, once you have one, you want the set!!
-
ohh yes well I am afraid that these are some mass produced small bottles, the type where the colour is sort of a film on the clear glass.
But I am goint to take pictures now ef every single glass thing I have and post it here tonight..hehe.
Who knows what I might have!
thanks again everyone!
Helga
-
some more glass...
Helga
-
That is better  - that photo comes out a reasonable size for my old eyes :-\ to be able to see detail. Any chance of redoing your first photo so it is much larger? Are those two clear glass vases/candlestick holders, Pukeberg or Iittala?
Ross
-
Hi, Ross, still learning how to work the board, hope that its me you are talking to!
hmm here is a link to my blog where the first pictures are, if you click on them you will see them large I hope
http://3kids.blogspot.com/2011/11/gler-glas-glass-ufff.html
the clear ones..the larger one is Walther Germany, the other one is Ingrid glass i gather, although its harder to confirm it seems.
I am looking for a ID for the purple vase.
again, hopin I am replying "right"

Try looking at Finnish glass for your purple vase.

Plus any other glass displays for Xmas theme too.

Sorry Rose,is this better?

Pamela they are lovely - took me while to figure out what was one the group. I love the Angel.
Keith you need Pamela's angel now - be great to have 9 of them in a square shape and huge frame to display them on a wall, with some funky lighting behind.

My latest....

That is an interesting group BusterJ. I would like a little info about what I am seeing in it. Also taking from such a low angle means the items behind are masked by those in front. Maybe a 45degree above shot would have shown all of the items to advantage.
Ross
-
2 for Christmas which will be used
Roy
-
Very nice indeed Roy, I too like using my glass....especally the art deco stuff.....it just looks classier that your ordinary Ikea stuff.
BusterJ, I have just had a look through your Picasa album....what a beautiful collection you have.
I had a little cry though, because you have a lovely 'blue swirls' Ermano Toso bowl and I had one almost identical, long before I started to have the bug for glass collecting, and it was in the downstairs cloakroom with all the other blue pottery, candles and bric a brac you keep in the loo even the loo & basin were dark blue!
Well it was one of my favourite pieces, but I dropped it on the floor.....it broke into a million pieces....I was very upset, but I am glad I didn't know what it was, or the value, because I would have been angry as well!! Lovely to see yours though.....thanks for the viewing. :sun:
Rosie.
-
That is a sad story Rosie.
That little blue Ermano Toso is one of my favourites. It fits so nicely in the palm of the hand and has a nice weight to it.
Thanks for having a a look at my little collection!

I tend not to display glass in big groups (I generally prefer glass displayed in isolation, or in pairs/trios at a push, plus any shelves usually get overrun by books within minutes of entering the house), but I was just photographing some new glassy acquisitions and thought a group shot of the 1920s-30s soffiato pieces by Cappellin and C.V.M. that I had to hand would look pretty snazzy...
-
And so they do Pinkspoons....and what a beautifully balanced arrangement as well.................thanks for sharing. :)
Rosie.
-
Nic they look fantastic - serene, very classy.
This is ours for Christmas - when it comes to this time of year, in my head everything is candlelight and traditional, real garlands and the smell of fir trees (which is where I come unstuck wanting to live in a modern all white house with no clutter ;D) All the glass in the sitting room will be white, green and amber so it doesn't clash with the multicoloured Christmas tree decs ;)

Beautiful    :mrgreen:are those cameo vases?Legras? :mrgreen:the only cameo piece I have is a late, damaged Galle vase
-
In my dreams Keith ;D no, they are enamelled. I love them nonetheless, but cameo? no unfortunately not. I have three pieces but none of which are worth much although I happen to think all are beautiful. Two damaged ( one Tip Galle but an unusual shape and I think it is gorgeous cameo, the other the little new snuff bottle). The third is a fish paperweight (Okra) that I was told wasn't real cameo in the true sense of the word. So you and me both then ;D although I think you are doing better than me with the Galle piece.
m

The gold is very christmassy I think
Helga
-
I spy 'anemone' pattern plates ;D ;D
-
yes, its so random what one can find here in this small "market" here in Iceland
and all those vases with gold I know nothing about.
Helga
-
The gold stuff is most likely Czech and probably Borske Sklo
-
very attractive Helga :).........might we describe you small collection as 'retro' i.e. a post 1945 style, now outdated, but becoming fashionable again, possibly because of attractiveness and appeal. :)
-
Nooo... 'retro', a contraction of 'retrospective', means 'new, but in an older style'.
I cringe at fairs and markets when dealers ask me if I'm "into that there vintage retro stuff". :-X
-
ohhh hahah I afraid I use "vintage" and "retro" a lot, but thats because thats what peple understand.
I have never really thought about the exact meaning, is there no good word that describes things that are not yet antique but still a bit old..that is 40+ years old?
And yes these are very attractive and festive even!
many thanks
Helga
-
In that case I think perhaps there might be a little personal interpretation with this word retro :)..........aren't I aware of seeing some of the Bargain Hunt type programmes using this word to describe pieces from the 50's and 60's - but whatever. I seem to recall that back in the good old days, vintage was used to describe something that was c. 50 years old, and antique implied 100 years or more - but I suppose like retro its all changed. Anything more than 10 years old is now probably considered an antique ;D
-
I'm with Nic. If it's new pretending to be old, it's retro; if it's old, it's old! People don't think about what they say and what it really means! These old objects are useful when trying to achieve a retro look; that is where it has come from.
(I want to know why everyone is big on efficiency savings. If we were truly saving efficiency, we'd be becoming less efficient!!!)
-
Aah, but they are. :thud:
"Efficiency savings" is the new expression for "putting folk out of work".
(same as "quantitative easing" is the new expression for "massive devaluation".)
Fewer folk to do the actual work, but expected to accomplish more than more folk did in the first place.
I think I use vintage for over 50 years old - but mostly avoid "retro". It means too many different things to too many folk!
-
but how old is old?
many people selling stuff think 20-30 years is old...thats not old but what is it?
Helga
-
Old is relative. In "thing" terms and today's disposable society, 20 or 30 years is old; last year's model is old. A two year old hamster is old and two year old person is still a baby.
-
I'm vintage.
That means 20-30 years old isn't old at all - not to me. :smg:
-
When I've been selling at fairs in the past, I've noticed that quite a few people think that anything made after 1939 "has no age". One woman took one look at my stall of primarily 1950s-70s glass and loudly exclaimed "It's all brand new! It shouldn't be allowed." ;D
-
>:D
She must have been really ancient!
-
She was veering towards the Blue Rinse end of the human lifespan.
A lot of the younger TV extwerps do exactly the same, though, which is quite saddening.
-
Flying free , do i spy a Graystan piece bottom right , why are you hiding it down there ?
-
I wouldn't be jealous JP, I'm sure you have many more pieces than me - my collection is still in the 'mistake' mode not yet a collection ;D ) . Normally it goes on the top shelf, but I have a decanter up there that wont fit anywhere else although that may be relegated for my new piece of glass ;D
m
-
IMHO, as just my opinion -- that is all......
Vintage means to me (IMHO) = less than 100 years old
Antique means to me (IMHO) = Greater than 100 years old
Retro means to me (IMHO) = the 60's/70's/80's era, around that period
Deco means to me (IMHO) = the 30's/40's/50's era, around that period
Mid Modern/or Eames means to me (IMHO) = the 50's/60's/70's era, around that period
IMHO - the word RETRO does not mean 'in retrospective' ... but rather a period of time in the Past
The term 'in retrospective' means to me (as how I see it) it means " In the style of_______" .
So this could mean something *New* but is designed with a certain Flair *to Copy* that style from that period, IMHO:
~ Designed in the style of Mid-Modern (but new)
~ Designed in the style of Deco Period (but new)
~ Designed in the style of Eames Style (but new)
:24: :24: Of course, this is just MO, and different countries may call things/or look at things differently too. So this is just how I kinda look at things here in Canada. Which could be totally wrong...but it might be just a Canadian thing
I hate when I see something made in the 90's and it is called "Antique" (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sauer/angry-smiley-005.gif) LOL
:wsh:
-
IMHO - the word RETRO does not mean 'in retrospective' ... but rather a period of time in the Past
Had a discussion about this not too long ago, and it turned out that 'retro', as applied to design, comes directly from 1970s France where rétro described brand new fashion harking back to 1940s aesthetics. It was with this meaning (of new things recalling the recent past) that it was adopted into English.
No idea when, or why, 'retro' and 'vintage' became interchangeable. As with most of my gripes about the world of design, eBay and rubbish television is probably to blame.
-
It's a healthy thing that language changes and moves on and I'm sure throughout the use of the Language of whichever country, over time, words have come to be used for different meanings as society changes. There is nothing wrong with that. Change is good and language remains exciting and fluid because of new words and meanings.
I do agree that the original use of the word 'retro' was to describe something new but in the style of as you write - and I'm sure ebay and the media do have something to do with the incorrect use of the word 'retro' from it's pure intention and meaning. However if it means someone views my item because that is their search word, then I'm happy to use it where I feel it is appropriate :sun:

Lol....that is the truth. Perfectly stated
Seen things on Ebay listed as "Retro Vintage Antique Mid-Modern Glass Vase". Tag words do help in ads, and might cause a buyer to take a look. It only takes one buyer looking for the right thing (wording) in an ad. I like that as I feel the seller takes an interest/pride in their item to (try) to describe it.
Not like some ads that cover every word under the sun such as:
"Rare Retro Vintage Antique Mid-Modern Glass Vase made by either Murano, Czech, Chalet, or chinese" :24: :24: :24:
To me Ads that throw Every word out -- are more desperate sellers and do not care/know their item, IMHO -- and want every possible tag word they can find...LOL, MO
:wsh:
-
In that case my Dear Friends on the GMB, from henceforth I wish to be know as Retrorosie.....New, but in the style of an older person!! :24: :24: :wsh:
-
That's keyword spamming Rose and not allowed (theoretically). I think if you are going to use the word retro, you must use it along with the real (approximate) age of your item. I might not want a genuine period piece; I might want something new in the style of.
:24: :24: at Rosie
-
I think if you are going to use the word retro, you must use it along with the real (approximate) age of your item.
which brings us neatly onto the 'genuine retro...' and 'original retro...' listings :24:
and how to list when you are listing a 70's retro item produced then to look like a 40's item ;D
I agree, it is important to clarify the age.
m
-
I don't mind language evolving with the times... but it grates when words/phrases that have very specific and useful meanings suddenly mean something that already has a name. "Begging the question" is one of them.
I like that as I feel the seller takes an interest/pride in their item to (try) to describe it.
Each to their own, obviously, but a litany of keywords - even if tangentially related to the item - is always a poor substitution for proper research and attribution when it comes to making me want to splash my cash.
It's relative, of course. Even "vintage retro vase" is better than simply "vase". But only just. ;D
-
As with most of my gripes about the world of design, eBay and rubbish television is probably to blame.
*ARE probably to blame, obviously. :-[ ;D
-
;D
but 'vase' is actually better than 'brown vase' :24: as a title.
-
You do get a surprising amount of auctions with "ugly vase" as the title too...
-
tell you what, let's all forget I ever used the word :24: :24: :24:

Now I am going to try to get back to some themed glass displays........back later with some pics! :usd:

I have done a few experiments with some of my Granna Glass and F M Konstglas pieces and added a pair of Reijmyre twin swans to this display in the hall. The little glass house is apparently an American candy container.
I have added some of them close up.

This is the glass displayed in my home. I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I have enjoyed seeing yours. Everybody's displays are so different. I like the variety.

Blimey,what a collection :thud: beautiful,do I spy a pair of ginbari cloisonne vases? ;D ;D
-
I too love your collection. :hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp:
My personal favourite is a decanter of which you have many, many beauties. I particularly like the Tiffany style Gold irridescent one. I am glad you are able to display so much - wish I had the room.
Out of interest where are you living Thomas. Most of the pieces in your collection would be unprocurable here in Australia, and postage is poisonous to get larger items here - fortunately I mainly collect small items.
Ross
-
Keith: The ginbari vases are not marked. I bought them because the design is a scene. Usually I see flowers, birds or fish. I thought the scenery was unusual. The small vase is marked. There is a vase like it at the following URL. It is labeled Meiji Egret Ginbari vase by Tsunekawa Taiichiro 1903. My vase may be Meiji but it is not by Taiichiro. The marks are different. I don't know who made my vase. The vases look nice in the cabinet but they are not perfect. There is considerable crazing in the pair and the smaller vase has a little crazing but not as much. Thank you for your kind remarks. http://idcloisonne.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/marks/.pond/upginbarivasesignedbird2.jpg.w180h328.jpg
-
A corrected URL If this doesn't show the whole page, click on "Japan marks" and scroll down near the bottom of the page. On the left. http://idcloisonne.com/id28.html
-
Ross: I'm glad you like the Tiffany decanter. It is marked "L C Tiffany Favrille" on the base. The wines are marked "LCT". I live in Eastern USA about 3 hours southwest of Washington, DC. I have actually had a couple of items shipped to me from Australia so I'm familiar with the postage. In fact, the postage was more than I paid for the items. One seller did tell me he could save me postage if I wanted it shipped by land instead of air. He explained that "by land" meant the package would cross the Pacific on a steamer. He said it would take about 2 months to receive it. I passed. The 2 months was probably assuming the steamer docked on the west coast. If it went through the Panama Canal and docked on the east coast, I would probably still be waiting for it.
-
       I am so envious - that decanter is spectacular!
By the way check out http://pottery.yobunny.com/ Collectables site

m - Thank you for your nice reply. I'm glad you liked it.

This is my dream:
Eva from Košic has got the most beautiful and amazing way of displaying her glass. See Jindrich's home page: http://www.cs-sklo.cz/

-
Wow, a lot of work and wiring in those shelves!
John
-
Not to mention the power bills in our new carbon tax world!
Imagine the same thing done with a large glass window (shop size) with the wall Easterly facing so you get the relatively cool morning sun. Or perhaps a Southerly/Northerly facing wall where the sun doesn't shine onto the glass. Sorry about those who live where the sun rarely shines - but only two years ago we had a 46.5°C day or in the old scale 115.5°F - so you can imagine with heat that intense in the Sun you really might set fire to the shelves. And that I might point out is in Melbourne - on the coast - not inland.
All that said what a beautiful result.
Ross
-
It does show off the glass well - but it looks like a shop display.
I couldn't have anything so cold and clinical in my home.
It would be good if museums would display glass like this!
(I'm afraid I was much more interested in the Vladimir Klein at the top of the page - I adore Vladimir Klein's work
-
I guess it all depends on the individual... I don't see it as cold and clinical, but clean, non-chaotic, and perfectly pleasing to my senses. :)
-
We're very different on this matter, aren't we? :)
Are you absolutely sure your fabulous Weidmann candleholders aren't just a little too..... disorganised for you? ;)
I could give them a "comfy, lived-in" home, any day! :sun:
-
Lol... then again, a wee bit of disorganisation won't kill me. My Wiedmann candleholders are fabulous. ;D
-
Oh well, you can't blame a girl for trying, Anik! :sun:

Well it being the end of a forgettable year for me I thought I should celebrate it with a Scottish Hogmanay disoplay of most of my Scottish collection. For a McKenzie whose male ancestors came from beside Eilean Donan Castle it seemed appropriate. Happy Old & New Year to everyone. I intend to have a better one this year.

Ross, that is a lovely selection of Scottish glass.....I have yet to find a Chris Dodds Mushroom, but I have lots of his animals (as if you didn't know!)....perhaps I should get them all together one day and take a picture....Selkirk, Chris Dodds and Caithness are my favourites.
Did I tell you BTW that I had bought anothe Alan Fox glass bird......here in UK!! Hooray, reasonable postage! When I geth all the Christmas stuff put away, I will take a picture of it and email it to you.....unless everyone wants to see it!!
Rosie. :)
-
Hi Ross, great selection!
I am only Scot "connected" by marriage (does that still count when one is widowed I wonder?) but I feel the urge to get out the Caithness for New Year coming over me - I'll just have to brave the shed and the redbacks to get to it all!
What is the bowl on the top right top of cabinet? You have just said Caithness but it is not one I am familiar with?
And happy and healthy New Year to you and yours.

Well all I can say is OMG... I have just been through Part 1,2 and 3 and Im blown away by everyone's collections! I feel like the poor glass collecting relative now! I may post some pics at some stage, there wont be many LOL And now everyone on here has scads of money or are excellent bargain hunters? Please tell me there is hope still out there for the budget collector to get some awesome items... :spls:
-
I'm a bargain hunter for sure Selina, the most I've ever paid for any piece was £35 for a new piece by Allister Malcolm. Most of my collection cost just a couple of pounds each.
-
Hi Selina, worry not, I got this beautifully carved piece for 99p!! It is signed as well, just still don't know who did it.
Very Christmassy!!
-
Well I HAUNT ebay LOL But what kills me is the postage to Australia. And I've read that its the same for anyone buying from here. I see some lovely items go for 9.99 and then its $40 postage We just dont seem to have the variety or the volume of great glass here. At least not where I am...:( Saving my pennies for a trip to the UK I think...Im originally from there and all my relatives are still there.... I'm dying to go to one of the flea markets or boot sales, or whatever they are called. I will be picking everyone's brains for the best one to go to :) And I guess I will take an empty suitcase with me LOL
Lovely bargain for 99p btw :hiclp:
-
What part of the UK were you originally from Selina?
There is always a warm welcome here if you need somewhere to stay....just had an eBay pen friend come over to stay in the Summer, and it was such good fun.......plenty of room and some pretty good boot fairs, Charity shops and the like!
-
Originally from Kent, but I was only young when we left. My nan still lives there but she's 92 and not very well. My aunts and uncles and cousins all live in various areas around there. Not any great distance away though. I came back in the 90's but the Aussie dollar was worth about 33 cents to the pound! So there was no hope of buying anything and I was 'into' beanie babies and toy collecting then LOL. Can you believe I used to hate glass..... the things I threw away :(
And let me know if there is anything special you are looking for...like I said I haunt ebay and I've passed on so many bargains purely because of postage...but Im always happy to pass on items to anyone else. Id rather see a glass lover get an item and know its going to be preserved and looked after. I've bought a few lovely Victorian vases over the years and been devastated when they have arrived here smashed, so any chance to save some lovely glass and Im there LOL. It also put me off buying from overseas....
-
I haunt eBay as well....why do you think I am up so late......1.20 am here in UK!
I love Alan Fox glass, and have just ot my 3rd bird....yay!
Best get off to bed now though as I am hosting a New Years Eve Dinner Party tomorrow!
Happy New Year to you,
Rosie. :)
-
Happy New Year to you too!! I was on until about 2am LOL.... Day here now... Send me your email if you like, I'll keep my eyes peeled for your glass LOL. Im trying to get my yahoo chat up and working but its not behaving. All the best for the New Year. :)
-
The little envelope on the left, under my name will always get me, or go to my profile.......email address is there as well.
Must get some sleep now, it is Late for a granny to be up!
Night night Selina.
Rosie :)
-
Ok, I've taken some pics... my only theme is try to stick with colours...and what I can fit in the limited space I have...there are bits of glass in drawers and boxes and on top of shelves.... Feel free to comment on my hodge podge collection..
-
The white vase with colour blobs on the extreme right of 011.jpg might be a Stuart Strathearn Impressions vase. Can you post it individually so we can see better detail.
Ross
-
Sure :) Only info I ever had on it was... its really, really old end of day glass. Bought from a lady at a car swap meet and it was practically forced on me! I didn't actually like it for a long time. I bought it over 10 years ago? For about $7 from memory.
And now after giving it a dust and a clean, I noticed that it may have had gold gilding around the edge..either that or inground dirt LOL
(added note... On the Kralik.com website it looks very similar to the Kralik Harlequin Opalescent on the Kralik Visual Decor Index A thru M )
-
I spy a few Whitefriars swans there, Selina  I have ... ahem ... a 'small' collection, too :-[ (Still looking for a black one, if you ever see one  )
Here's a few of my swans ;D
-
That is a very nice vase indeed. I can easily imagine it is Kralik. It is most definitely NOT Stuart Strathearn,
Ross
-
Presumably Leni the vases are of Leda :24: :24: :24:.
Intriguing, no one seems to have created a black swan - as we get here in Australia. They would make a stunning piece of work with the bright red beak and the white feathers nearer the tail.
Ross
-
Leni is Swan upping , only Her Madge has more than that .
-
Ross they do exsist and are rare they also did a paperweight with black Swan for the Oz market $$$$$ .
-
You are right about black swans Ross, they are beautiful. Haven't seen many in real life, but was 'blown away' when I did recently.
Think I will put in a favourite search for one, or even a pair.....race you all to find one!!
Rosie. :)
-
I.S. who made the Pwt for the Australian market?
Rosie I would win easily, only a 20 minute drive and I can catch as many as I want - probably get the young as well.
Ross
-
I meant GLASS ones Ross!
-
Rosie you didnt pick up my spelling error exist not exsist , i was looking forward to a good spanking in the new year .
Ross Whitefriars made the Weights with the black Swan .
-
Oh your swans are lovely!! I've resisted buying anymore even though I see them come up on ebay... I have a dark smoky one, it was my first ever one...got it from the markets and it was covered in dirt and I nearly didnt buy it. I was smitten once I washed it :)
And here are a few more of mine...
-
I don't have a WF Black Swan paperweight, but I am extremely lucky to have one of the black swan canes - in a pendant Ray Annenberg made for me ;D
But what I would really like is a WF black swan! Only made for the Australian market, and as John says, very rare! :X: ;)
-
Well all I can say is OMG... :spls:
Excuse me Selina, did you say poor relative.....you have a wonderful collection.....and please can I see the little birds, especially the red and white one? I do collect birds, don't I everyone?
Rosie. :)
-
Leni, that is a beautiful pendant....and to have it specially made for you, what treasure!
IS, aka JP, I have never been known to harm anybody - yet, even for bad spelling!
-
Selina, I think I see the bottom of some Uranium pieces on the shelf above your ruby shelf :) Can we see those as well, please? That's something else I collect ;) ;D
-
I'll take a close up of the birds tomorrow... :)
More...and yes poor relative!! Quite a few of my items have damage...
-
Just found this, but does it count Ross, is it like the Australian ones????
http://www.etsy.com/listing/67317612/art-glass-black-swan-by-boyd-glass
Thanks Selina, look forward to them when you have time.
Rosie :)
-
Thought you all might like to see a black swan ;)
It's known as "Swan" in black amethyst Carnival Glass, made by the Crown Crystal Company in Australia. The design was registered in 1924.
-
Selina, I spy a Northwood 'Opal Open' in the middle of your Uranium shelf! :hiclp: I have one of those too.
And don't worry about damage - loads of my glass has damage as well! When I started collecting it was a way of getting hold of pieces I couldn't otherwise afford, and most of it 'displays well', as the saying goes, when turned in the right orientation ;) ;D
-
Leni, that is a beautiful pendant....and to have it specially made for you, what treasure!
I should just correct myself - Ray didn't actually make this specially for me. He made it from his collection of canes as a paperweight 'button', intending it to be encased in glass at a future opportunity. However, I was visiting him and we were discussing swans and he said to me "As a swan collector and a paperweight collector you would probably like this". I did indeed like it, so Ray sold it to me to have it made into a pendant by a jeweller friend of mine :)
-
So Leni you collect Bottoms as well , very interesting !!!! i think you need a brain Doctor - sorry i cant spell psychologist . :- [ :hi: :ho:  :band: :pty:
-
Here you go Rosie...my swans and the birds, and even a couple of ring in swans...they always made me think of Whitefriars (the 2 small ones). And some of the birds laid eggs LOL. Sorry for the terrible photo taking... pics to follow in second post also. And no signatures on the little birds so I have no idea about them. The front one was attacked by a larger bird and lost the tip of his tail :P
-
Having trouble posting the birds...you can see my swan in the previous pic is kind of black....haha...
-
Actually Rosie this is a better representation as it shows the lovely red beak
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Whitefriars-Glass-picture-cane-Aust-BLACK-SWAN-11mm-/220920180016?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336fde6d30
Ross
-
Oh Ross, you are right, it is a lovely swan, and I see there is an Angel one as well.....those and butterflies are my fave!!
I didn't even know these canes existed, I will have to start a whole new collection now!!
Selina, your birds are so cute, wish I knew who made them.
Rosie. :)
-
They look the same as the Kerry birds listed...
-
Well this thread has got me cleaning my glass and sorting it out and yes I'm also moving it around....so here are some of my themes I put together... this theme...call it what you will :)
-
And this one is my decorated theme..... any comments welcome and any info...I know the bird and bowl at back are Fenton... :spls:
-
Your top theme is Bohemian, I would say, as is most of your painted stuff. The amber one might be Harrach.
-
Were they ever signed Christine? I've been looking over the painting...for something so beautiful on both I was sure Id find a signature...
Oh and I keep forgetting to sign my name...I used to do it before, I think I must have had it set and its all back to square one...and speaking of going back to square one...is the Sklo union expert missing from the board now?? Marcus?
Trudy
-
Very little enamelled Bohemian stuff is signed and any signature is more likely to be the individual painter rather than the manufacturer (of the glass) or the refiner (a company that bought glass to decorate).
Marcus doesn't visit any more.
Go to your profile and add a signature there Trudy. Then you don't have to remember.
-
Picture 002jpg a nice piece of Kralik front centre, mother of pearl with green trails   ;D ;D
-
Thanks Keith  That was my biggest ever glass purchase would you believe.. AND I bought it from a reputable antique store in Australia... as a Loetz bowl... :o
-
John Hobbs has asked us to put a picture of this pair of Whitefriars black swans on this thread.

Wow! Nearly right. But where is the glorious RED beak and hint of white feathers in the wing?
See http://www.birdway.com.au/anatidae/black_swan/index.htm and
http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=Swan+black&hl=en&gbv=2&biw=1460&bih=1055&tbm=isch&tbnid=K5bdRNRHGws4nM:&imgrefurl=http://www.pourrichard.com/2011/02/27/the-black-swan-has-white-stripes/&docid=kjYDBZ1ky2LGNM&imgurl=http://www.pourrichard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Black-Swan.jpg&w=350&h=330&ei=K-QAT7jxIM-TiAft7-WnAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=422&vpy=613&dur=6352&hovh=218&hovw=231&tx=132&ty=149&sig=106667853367098931005&page=4&tbnh=161&tbnw=171&start=93&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:93
Which illustrate what a beautiful bird it is.
Ross
-
artistic license Ross ;D
they are absolutely beautiful in their own right though - thank you both :)
m
-
Yeah, those are the one's I'm looking for! Now you know what to look out for on my behalf, Trudy  ;D
Thanks to John, and to Terry & Peggy for posting the pic :hi:
-
I'd better find 2 then Leni!!! lol
-
Cheers Peggy and Terry maybe a splash of lippy on the beaks then . jp
-
Maybe this one will suffice for now?
I hope I'm allowed to post links??

-
They look the same as the Kerry birds listed...
Told you I stayed up late to catch you 'foreigners'!
I don't think your little birds are Kerry Glass...as yours are a little more sophisticated in design, with little wings, more in the style of Glory Art Glass, Isle of Wight birds, but the colours are beautiful.
Have a look at this link, but I am not sure thry are exactly the same as yours??
http://www.gloryartglass.com/birds.htm
Rosie. :)
-
Ooooh look I have their 'ugly duckling' relative :o :o
-
Rosie, us foreigners appreciate that :) It's a lonely board when everyone is asleep LOL
Those birds do look a bit like mine :)
Keith, my two little ones are relatives also, but they are very similar to the whitefriars. And someone has to buy the ugly ones :)
-
And someone has to buy the ugly ones :)
Lol... that brought back an old memory. I once dated a man who proposed marriage to me by saying: Anik, you're fat and ugly and no one will ever want you, so I'll do you a favour and marry you.
:pb:
-
Oh my!!! I hope you set him straight! And dumped him!
-
I went home and cried. Then I started thinking that 'ugly' is purely subjective, and that at 53kg, how fat could I really be? So, yes, I dumped him.
Unfortunately at the time, I did not realise this man was a sociopath. You cannot finish with sociopaths. They have to finish with you. But that's all in the past. :)
-
Well we should declare this the 'Year of Womanly Beauty' and be proud of ourselves. I am a rather plumptious lady, but my smile deflects from that ( I hope!).
Beauty comes from within and an attitude of mind....you are lovely Anik, as are all we GMB ladies.
Next year we should have a Ladies Calendar girls calendar, with bits of our glass collection covering the bits and pieces we want to hide!!
Sorry....lets get back to 'Show me yours, I'll show you mine'...or is it the same thread? :hj:
Rosie ;D
-
Is Carnival Glass welcome?
Sowerby's Royal Swans in amethyst.
-
Oh wow Glen, that is beautiful :sun: .....I have been looking at Carnival glass recently and have to say, that is one of the nicest pieces I've seen to date.....have you got any other pieces to show?
Oooops silly me, just realised I can look in Thistlewood!! Sorry :-[
Rosie. :)
-
have you got any other pieces to show? Rosie. :)
Hi Rosie - well we've got a website packed full of pieces to show - www.thistlewoods.net We're working on putting a lot more (and bigger) images on the Galleries at the moment, but there's a lot of our glass on our website in all the articles and features.
Keeping with the swan theme, here's another Sowerby Carnival Swan (another of my favourites).
-
Thanks Glen....I realised after I had written!!
So this year it will have to be Carnival glass and Whitefriars glass Canes...........Hmmm, wonder if I can hide them amongst all the pther pieces I have???
Rosie. :)
-
Maybe we should start a swan thread?? Or maybe just birds and animals? I've just discovered some other animals I have LOL including a uranium snake. All the birdies and animals deserve a look see :anb:
-
Oh Trudy, I have over 600 glass birds & animals....I could do a thread all on my own....but I would love to see all yours, and anybody elses!
Rosie, :)
-
As it sounds like you have a monumental collection, I think you should start off the animal post LOL And I'll post the couple that I have in your thread...maybe one at a time to stretch it out LOL
-
I think most have already been posted here over the years.......have a look at the 'show me yours part 1 and 2'!!
I usually show new ones as they arrive.
Must get off to bed now, it is nearly half past one, I have turned into a pumpkin!
-
600! phew Rosie, this is my little 'menagerie manor'.................there are more fish but couldn't be bothered to climb onto the cupboard ;D
-
You have some nice pieces there Keith....I like the Wedgwood pieces, especially the long tailed birdie....I have one of those by Langham, made and signed by Paul Miller when he left Wedgwood to start his own studio. I think it is here on the board somewhere.
Just got a bird arrived today, not sure of the maker, but got a green body with a blue blob in the centre....
I also won the Boffo Penguin tonight and one of Adam A's pieces I was hoping to win, so that's 603 now!
I've just been outbid on an ellie and a doggie, but there there, you can't win them all.
Anyway, I am a pumpkin again, and I have to be up early as we have had bad storms, and a tree is down in our garden, streching over into next door and the fence is down in the other neighbours, so we are helping with that!
Rosie.
-
My huge collection, minus the birds of course LOL I have no idea about the "pig"? I THINK its a pig anyway...the kitty cats glow btw...
-
Forgot my snake!
-
Trudy, I just love your pig. Such a big, solid thing. Fabulous!
-
Anik I thought it was a bird till someone else turned it around and TOLD me it was a pig they thought LOL
-
A bird?!? With two holes on its bottom placed horizontally? LOL.
Then again, Australia has got some funky wildlife... funkier than Poland, at least. ;D
-
Selina please dont ever become a Vet or a Farmer . :24:
-
Bahahaha!!! Cmon, I was looking at the wrong end!!!
-
'Should have gone to Specsavers' Trudy!!! :wsh:
-
I think we're being a bit hard on Trudy... the pig might look like a bird. Really. All you have to do is squeeze your bum-cheeks together, squint your eyes, and tilt your head ever-so-slightly to the right. And viola!
Trudy, I'm just teasing. :kissy: :kissy: :kissy: I still think it's a wonderful creature.
-
Ah Anik :p If you close one eye, stand on one leg and lean slightly to the left......... LOL there's the beak, wings and tail!!
-
Trudy, when I use your method, I can even see it fly... or maybe it's just the leftovers of last night's Jasiu Wędrowniczek still flowing through my veins. ;D
-
Who knows Anik, with that stuff flowing through your veins, pigs might fly!! :24: (http://serve.mysmiley.net/animals/animal0026.gif) (http://www.blueislandsdiving.com) :24:
-
Oh Anik and Rosie...I found this lovely pair of 'pigs' at the markets this morning LOL for the princely sum of $12 which is good for here.... No idea who made these little piggies but thought you might like to see them :p
-
Hi Trudy, these are a pair of Maltese Lovebirds, made in Malta by Phoenician Glass Studios. Very nice too. The writing on the base says Phoenician glass Malta 05, so that will be the year thay were made.
Hope that is helpful...... Nice collection of blue 'piggies' you are getting!
Rosie. :)
-
Just found these in a drawer, looking for something else,a one legged bird and an odd horse thing :spls:
-
Hmmmm Keith.....well now you know why they were in the drawer :wsh:
Sorry, that was mean, and you know I am never mean.....but I can't help with any identifying I'm afraid, They will probably turn out to be stupendously rare!!
Rosie. :)
-
Well I was going to put them back in the drawer but they might be rare as you say, maybe early Galle or Loetz? :o :o so I'm putting them on display :spls: sort of ::)
-
Just found these in a drawer, looking for something else,a one legged bird and an odd horse thing :spls:
Look like a Baby Dinosaur to me ?? the horse one.... :pb: :24:
-
They look like embryo's! :o :rn:
-
You are sounding a little better today Rose....has Keith's embryo/ one legged bird / horse thingy shocked the cold out of you??
Keith, sorry, we do love you really :kissy: and as you say, they could be Galle or Loetz. Or might even be related to Selinas Flying Pig.
Have we started a new trend here....'Show me your most odd looking animal....and I'll show you mine!' ? :24:
Rosie. :usd:

For that I'd have to send a self-portrait!
-
Go on then Keith, I dare you!
-
I'm not sure who's going to regret this more,me showing it or you for asking (it's an old cartoon by my better half) :pb: :pb:
-
I think that should go in the Rogues Gallery Keith......I can't see a pic of you there!
-
So you were a Rolling Stone then Keith . i love your music .
-
Must have been rolling something :wsh: :thud:

For you Keith....

-
Selina, not really my cup of tea, although it would go well with my one legged bird :o ;D
-
It is too late to join the swan hunt?
-
So Keith your Paul McCartney now , make up your mind boy .
-
Do you mind, Paul McCartney is my cousin!.......one of my claims to fame! ;D :rah: :smg:
Rosie. ;)
-
Oh no jp,sorry Rosie not a McCartney fan more Ramones and Hendrix with a touch of Wagner is to my taste :spls: :o
-
I didn't say I was a fan Keith, I'm his cousin!
But I am a fan as well....I was a Beatnik at the Cavern in days of yore when mini skirts were really mini skirts, and we all wore Ban the Bomb badges!
But methinks this is :hj: the thread....
-
Been playing with some lighting stuff to see if I can make things look better.... well at least different..... Here is a shelf I did..... Large LED up-lit pedestals.......
Craig
-
Well someone had better come and plant me in the ground because I just turned green with envy!!
Just gorgeous Craig!! :hiclp:
-
 they do look beautiful illuminated in that way - very subtle.
m
-
>:D
We've been fiddling with the camera! I've got a new pic of my glass wall - updated. It wasn't easy - Christine told me to imagine her and her OH standing in front of the shelves, to help me get my perspective.
Well, I did, but Keith wouldn't stop dancing around, making silly faces at me!
I got another couple of pics around the room too
-
:hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp: :rah: :rah: :rah:
-
>:D
That's exactly what Keith was doing!
-
:o well you know already, I'm not truly envious ;D but that is a one woman Roadshow :rah:
Fabulous!
m
-
Simply stunning Sue, that onion vase is just one of many pieces that jump out!
-
It does that because it sits on a green Davidson cloud glass plinth, Greg!
Plinths are wonderful. :smg:
-
Oh wow, Sue! Wow, wow, wow! And wow!
P.S. Where do you display your magnificant wave? It's the most gorgeous glass object I've ever seen.
-
It has pride of place on the desk in front of the window, Anik.
Sadly, this is where burglars have had a tendency to break in - and while they ignored all the art work, they did stand on the wave as they crunched the leaded glass panels, so it does have a few minor bits of damage - a couple of broken "drips".
I've found one of his sites - with lots of images of newer "waves". They are getting more and more adventurous - and more and more fail during the making.
http://grahammuir.co.uk/news/
-
:pb:
I've plunged in and left Craig's fabulous lighted display uncommented on - sincere apologies Craig! I love the way it show the sculptural pieces off so well - I'm even drooling over your pink (eeeek) bits!
-
Those are such beautiful pieces Sue, and the display is, as already mentioned, a one man show in itself.
If I didn't already know, I would have said you liked IOW Studio Glass!
I had no idea you had been broken into....that is horrid, the feeling of being 'invaded' and your private space violated, is awful. We were burgled years ago, but his wife reported him to the Police and we got everything back......amazingly!
Craig, I am going to have a go at uplighting some of the glass I have, but as the lights are fixed, it will mean standing on my head to look at the display......probably not.....at my age!
Thank you all for your lovely displays.
Rosie. :)
-
... they did stand on the wave as they crunched the leaded glass panels...
(http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0049.gif) (http://www.blueislandsdiving.com) Good grief, what a bunch of morons. Unbelievable.
John, using light to accent your glass is brilliant... I also plan to do the same. One day.
-
Amazing!!! You have some truly stunning pieces of glass!! :girlcheer: I almost want to change the style I collect :)
-
Post-Christmas tree to fill the gap :)
-
:o
You're showing your *strange* bit after all! While I was away, I tried reading my "American Studio Glass 1960-1990" (Martha Drexler-Lynn), but sadly, found it highly unhelpful for my needs.
On p.52, there is a black and white pic of a panel of judges (all named and id'd by academic position) studying some pieces of glass from the 1968 Toledo Exhibition.
One of the bits of glass looks very similar to yours. The book omits to tell you who made the glass, of course.
(it seems to be mostly an academic treatise on the acceptance of glass into art, it's not really about the glass or the artists creating the movement at all. :grrr: I found it very dry and unrewarding.)
But perhaps some folk like books from that angle.
Personally, I've read far more interesting academic theses, though they've been scientific rather than art subjects.
-
Sue thanks, I will remember not to order that one if it comes around then - it's quite hard to find any glass books or catalogues of the period so researching it is difficult I find.
m
-
Oooo... what a beautiful display, m!
-
oh dear, m - I looked at your second pic after my stunned goldfish impersonation, realised it wasn't Jiri, and deleted myself to say something else instead - but we cross-posted!
-
lol, I've amended my post as well now in response to your further post ;D
Thank you Anik :)
m
-
Well that is more like it - three stunning displays, just when I was wondering if I had accidentally hit the Cafe button.
Craig - Simply stunning. :hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp: Who made the large pink vase at the right rear corner please?
Sue - WOW! WOW! WOW ! IOW!   However, I do notice some items made from mud in the last picture - TUT! TUT! By the way who is the maker of the large vase in the middle of the third picture, please?
Ross
-
Hi M, just wondered what the piece in the centre top shelf of your cabinet was...? just that there was one recently for sale which was fairly similar that I nearly bid on, not 100% sure if its the same item or not.
:sun:
-
My mud items have glass on them. I like the odd bit of mud work, Ross.
The large vase in the middle (and the tall one to the left) of the third pic are by Phil Atrill. He studied with Bob Crookes.
The middle one is a "Distortion" vase (The tall one at the side is a "Horizon" Bottle.).
I think it's a fairly early "Distortion" vase. (given the price I paid and the prices they are now, and that I'd never seen one quite as complex before.)
I've found a link:
http://www.philatrill.com/categories/1/galleries/3/images/12
But these newer ones don't seem to have the opaque whitish contour lines inside the casing as well as the thin band spiralling around the outside. The yellow and purply ones might - it's hard to tell from the pics.
Better pic of mine in this thread.
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,30275.0.html
-
Greg it's the same one :) still under investigation (possibly forever under investigation like my funny fish winged type vase) but one of my new 'fave' pieces ;D
m
-
Thanks M, wasn't there a signature on it from memory, although I think the seller mentioned it was difficult to work out..?
-
Well, I wouldn't call it a sig, even though it might be described as one - it's a scratched word - possibly done quickly by the artist or someone working with them as it were, or possibly done by the artist who couldn't use a diamond point engraver, or possibly done by the first owner lol, or possibly even done as the name of the place of an exhibition where it might have taken part (I do have a vase signed by the artist that also has the name of the exhibition place where it was to be exhibited, so perhaps that is also a possibility)- it's one of those kind of 'sigs' ;D
and it's not who I thought it might be as an outside guess given the 'sig', although that matters not as I just fell in love with the vase :girlcheer:
m
-
Couple of new pics for the New Year. Mix of Scandinavian and Maltese.
:sun:
-
And yet another wonderful display! Thank you for sharing, Greg.
-
Thanks Anik, my pleasure.
-
gorgeous pieces Greg
m
-
I love the 'people' decanters in particular Greg.....and until recently, didn't see a great deal in Maltese glass, :o but the more I see of it here on the board, Sue's and now yours, the more I am warming to it and thinking.............now where can I put the next cabinet???
I haven't done any themes recently, but it is Spring cleaning time coming up, and so I might well do one soon.....but it will be animals and birdies I'm afraid!......hope you don't mind!?
Rosie. :)
-
That's a really lovely collection, Greg!
Have you any bits with cobalt blue in them?
-
Thanks all.
Roise, I'm quite a fan of the Riihimaki decanters, they bring a smile to my face when ever I look at them. Technically, the clear piece on the left is a Riihimaki "Ahkeraliisa" or also known as "Busy Lizzy" which is easier to remember! The other two are decanters, designed by Helena Tynell, which were inspired by a children's story originally. To date I only have two out of four that were produced, the blue one is known as 'Pikku Matti' (Little Matt) and the other 'Isoisa' (Grandfather). Look forward to seeing new pics your latest flock soon. :)
Sue, thanks, although its no where near your hoard of Mdina, I'm surprised there's not a global shortage! - No cobalt blue pieces I'm afraid.
-
You have pieces I covet, Greg - as does John and quite a few others.
I suppose though, when it comes to the best bits, there is a world shortage - there's only so much a man, even a workaholic like Michael Harris, can do in three years!
-
Thanks for all that info Greg, really interesting......the blue one reminds me of the Flour Grader's 'Fred'. I had a lot of them (yes, I know it is plastic! but in the 70's they were Juliette's playthings,) then I sold them for a fortune on ebay and used the dosh to buy a lovely piece of Leerdam glass....a little Satin Glass Dachshund that I adore....I have two of them now, but got outbid on a clear glass version the other night 2am!!!!....still haven't really got over it, BUT, I did get the ellie and that should arrive soon, then I will do a Leerdam animal display for this thread....OK?
Oh, another Leerdam Deer has just arrived....the one that cost £26 to pay the customs people for VAT....I didn't think you payed VAT on second hand goods???? Anyone know better than me about it?? :usd:
Rosie. :)
-
Roise, roughly, I gather VAT is payable on anything over £18 that's anywhere outside the EU. From memory I gather this is going to go down to £15, sometime this year, if it already hasn't! VAT is also not payable for any items purchased under £40, which are classed as a family gift. Septate to VAT, I think Customs Duty is payable on most items over £135, although the rates vary depending on the type of item, imported.
Some of this may have changed slightly this year. Just looking, I think VAT itself is not always payable, there are a number of factors involved, however, Import VAT is charged on nearly all imports by Customs and Excise, regrettably.
Greg
-
Ah well Greg, I am pleased to say that I didn't pay that much for the deer and it is beautiful, so even with the postage on top,, I still got it cheaper than expected....pics as soon as little ellie arrives. Thanks for the info,
Rosie. :)
-
Hi
Just building up my collection again - I do have a lot packed away though
Photos show part of my Aseda collection - red, green and blue bamboo and dogbone vases - I think the latter also came in white (Leslie Pina - Fire & Sea pp130) - also large vase (pp128) and elongated bottle vase that I attribute to Aseda but could be Gullaskruf, also a smaller flattened off red version with made in Sweden sticker and remains of Aseda sticker
Riihimaen showing some well known vases - I have a lot more packed away
Adam
-
Lovely, Adam :hiclp: Made me want to take a picture of my conservatory 'green' window sill, as the sun is currently shining in on it :sun:
-
I would look hard in the Whitefriars catalog for the large blue/green vase. And at Caithness for the right hand twosome.
Ross
-
Don't know what happened there - I was commenting on a collection I can't find any more. ?????
Ross
-
My Welsh collection has just tripled. Had the obelisk pwt for some time. Bought the first swan off Ebay(in England) and the day after it arrives, there at the local op-shop is its cousin! :spls:
Ross
-
:24:
I'm so glad I came over to this page, Ross. I've been scutinising and scrutinising Adam's and Leni's pics.... and wondering what on earth you were on..... or what I was missing! :spls:
-
Just thought Rosie may like to see my birds - What do you do on a 42C day? stay in the airconditioning and redo the display cabinet of course ;D
Will post the last two pics on the next page.
JAK
West Oz.
-
the last two shelves
Birds and ducks from Cenedese (5) , Generic Murano (7) Wedgwood (1) and a glass penguin souvenir from Penguin Island Victoria Aust (probably made in China)
Enjoy!

And of course we have just had Australia Day 26th January.
Had to mark it in glass
Hooray for the green and gold :rah:
Not Australian glass though!
A probable Murano Kangaroo, Green Wedgwood candlestick, green and gold Isle of Wight Studio Glass perfume bottle. A mixed bag - just like Aussies ;D

:hiclp: Beautiful displays! How lovely your glass birds look displayed all together ... but with space between so you can see them in all their beauty! (Unlike my cabinets, which are so full you can't see the things at the back :pb:)
And well done for the Australia Day display! :usd: :rah:

Hi everyone!
I am new in this forum and I want to share with you my humble collection.
I am fascinated with glass and crystal, it is an incredible material for everyday objects, its light and its reflection turns objects into works of art.
I tried to organized my stuff into themes:
FIRST PHOTO:
Frosted glass, a Lalique Pinsons bowl, an Etling France little vase and two INWALD vases (Forest and Pansies)
SECOND PHOTO:
Art Deco Style Pressglass Vases, some of them Czechs, two Luxval 1935 (Val Saint Lambert): "Marceau" and "Model:60" and some unknown (any information is welcomed!)
THIRD PHOTO:
Eclectic collection of Vases, Centerpieces and objects 60's and 70's style, some SKLO UNION Czech, two Argentinian "Querandi" glass vases, Vase and ashtray "sommerso" from Murano, etc
FOURTH PHOTO:
High quality cut crystal, a couple of bottles or decanters, maker unknown, two Val Saint Lambert, Belgique Centerpieces or spherical vases, a little clear crystal vase (Moser) and a light blue cut vase (maybe Moser too).
Hope you enjoy it!
Comments and any information is welcomed!

Hello Hugo.....how lovely that you have reawakened the Themed Glass Displays.....well done! Oh and welcome as well.....as we haven't 'met' yet!
I like the vase in picture 3 with the swirly pattern...... and the one in the first picture that looks like shells all over it.
I think I had better get the camera out again, I keep promising!

Hello Rosie! thanks for your comments, the swirly pattern Vase in picture 3 is Argentinian (just as me ;) ) it is signed "Querandi" , Querandi was one of the finest argentinian glass and crystal manufacturer this vase is a hand made brown to clear acid etched glass vase.
The small one in the first foto is a Czech INWALD Barolac, pressedglass vase named "pansies" circa 1930.
Greetings
Hugo

Great pictures Hugo and lovely pieces - I love the pansies vase, it's such a fantastic design. The forest one also. And thank you it's interesting to hear about Argentinian glass makers and to show such a fab vase from them....I've never heard any information on Argentinian glass.
m
-
Yes, thank you Hugo....Like m, I hadn't heard of Argentinian glass....so you see you never stop learning with glass (or anything else for that matter!). I thought the little vase was shells, but that's 'cos I'm on my little 10" laptop tonight, and so it is not so easy to see. I have heard of the 'Pansies' vase though......I have a green Barolac John Jenkins (?) 'Butterflies' oblong vase which I count amongst my most favourite pieces.....it is in the Glass Gallery here if you want to see it.

The forest vase is one of my favorites too, and the Lalique Pinsons also.

That is really lovely Hugo, so different, and I bet it is even more stunning in real life......and signed as well.....you can't ask for more, can you?

Thanks Rosie, yes, pictures dont show all its beauty.... and yes! I CAN ask for more!... I can ask for more pieces like this!! ;) ;D
Best wishes.

After browsing these posts, again,I thought it time to get colour co-ordinated so here it is...... ;D,Sue is very fond of the pink shelf :o ;D ;D
-
:P
I like the bottom shelf the bestest. ;D
-
And I like them all Keith.....wow, how tidy and clean......I'm off to get the soap and water out!!....................... ;)
-
We had a 'D' day,usually not so spick and span ::) ;D ;D ;D
-
Been rearranging too, the loo went all Aurene the other day.....
John
-
Great display John, also very neat, not all my shelves are so carefully arranged, for example this is next to me at the moment :o
-
Keith your shelves look great. You have a gorgeous collection of different pieces. I really want to get all colour co-ordinated but every time I try, I just cannot live with it and start adding the odd colour here and there until suddenly I realise they are all multi-coloured again ::)
I'm trying really hard to stick to a basic 'collection' now and not be so eclectic, but it's really difficult. I'm like a kid in a candy factory when I see something beautiful even if I know it's nothing like the pieces I already have.
John, they are stunning. I really love the aurene pieces all together, the colours, the different shapes, so elegant.
I will put some pics together once I'm sorted out again.
m
-
I'm so pleased we have rekindled this thread again.....I too am trying to co-ordinate my pieces and have put all the neodymium glass in the Kitchen because that is where the strip lighting is and so I see it change to blue at night.....my grandson thinks it is magic!
I'll take some pictures tomorrow and put them on here.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with glass collections in the loo. not as many as yours John.....and not such expensive taste, but a lot of Selkirk and Langham animals watching you in there!
Also my IOW azurene glass collection has grown so much, I think it is time to show it again, so I will do that as well.
But as it is almost three in the morning, I had better get off to bed!
Night night!
-
Wow, John, that's the classiest loo I've ever seen! And the lighting (and glass) at the top of your kitchen cupboards is gorgeous.
-
You should see Patricia's downstairs loo, almost no glass but it is a loo accessory museum!
-
A loo accessory museum? :o
I do wish my curiosity could be satisfied with a photo... it sounds either fascinating or slightly disturbing. Perhaps both.
-
I'll ask if I can post one
-
expensive taste
Yes that has been a problem... Not so bad these days, as the collection grows there are fewer items that I want to add to it but they can be the pricier examples.
Most of my displays are mixed colour, not tried all one decor before but saying that there is plenty of variation within Isle of Wight's Aurene.

Sick of looking at a half completed display - time is of the essence at the moment. This is just a selection of purchases from this year.
Top Shelf:- Mainly Australian but the left hand irridescent vase is an Abelman Spiderweb
Middle Shelf:- My aviary seems to be increasing - 2 Marcolin, a Holmegaard, 3 Finnish, & 2 from UK. My otter is hiding and the polar bear has an unusual base mark - a Diamond with an A inside, all created as a series of small raised dots. 4 Riihimaki vases, a Bertil Vallien Vase & Three Holmegaard bits. Finally a Whitefriars suncatcher(bought here in Australia)
Bottom Shelf:- Two "Pickle" jars & small Webb decanter. Vases from Finland(2), Caithness(2), Skridlovice(2?) and IOW. Holmegaard Plimsoll decanter. Canadian Carved Siku glass. Okra perfume, TVG pwt, Squash pwt, and a small plate(? Monart).
A number of these will be posted for asssistance in attribution when I get the chance.
Ross

Hi Ross, a little info that you might already know...the 2 birds on the RHS are Haparanda Glasbruk (as far as I know)....I have some of these with labels. The otter is Langham Glass House (but you might already know that, does it have an etched mark on the base, or even a Paul Miller signature?) and the owl on the left at the back is probably FM Konstglas if it isn't already marked.
What a lovely collection....I wondered if the green bird at the back left is another Finnish Glasbruk piece from the Art Glass Team, does it have a label?
The white and green duck at the fromt looks remarkably like a Selkirk Scotland piece, but I would need to see a better view to be certain....it should be labelled or engraved if it is.
-
Spot on with just about everything Rosie. The bird at the extreme left is a Marcolin duck and the smaller green bird at the back near the Ronneby owl is a Napapiirin Lasi from Finland. The small clear one is a Michael Bang from Holmegaard and the Black puffin a Hadeland.
Ross
-
I'd love to see some of them separately when you have time Ross, especially the Hadeland Puffin and the other Finnish Napapiirin one. I have several of these hollow Finnish birds, all made the same way with a separate gather of glass to form the head and neck.....in fact I have 2 listed for sale at the moment because I am just about out of room for any more in the collection. Trouble is, I don't mind if they don't sell!! 2.30am....best get some kip...methinks!!
-
:o
I think your "Monart" plate might just be a very scarce, very early, bit of Mdina....
More piccies, pretty please? :)
-
I have been busty taking photos as I have bought quite a lot lately. This i9s the second half of my current purchases.
Top Shelf:- The centre rear Strombergshyttan and the extreme left rear Orrefors have a blue sheet behind them so the engraving shows better. There are 12 makers represented.
Middle shelf:- Rear left corner is Slajaglas - an unusual Swedish company.
Bottom Shelf:- LH side is an Australian Slumped glass bowl.
Ross
-
I have to say you have the most unusual collection Ross....each piece is so interesting. I thought I knew my Scandi glass, but had never heard of Slajaglas.....I will keep a look out for it.
What is the flat backed piece on the botton row with the green label? Is it an animal or a map shape?
It really is a fascinating collection......keep taking pictures...I'm sure you have a couple of other pieces of glass!!
-
That is a piece of Austrian glass in the shape of Austria by Steirisches.
Ross
-
Thanks Ross, I have seen a couple of glass maps from Scandi companies, but didn't recognise your Austrian one. I don't think I have any Austrian glass.....but it has made me think.....is Bleikristall Austrian?.....off to find out!!
-
Hi Ross (IMHO) I don't believe the plate is a Monart piece. Monart did not do that shape with an inverted lip, though Vasart and Strathearn did.
Gary
-
Ross, that is the part of Austria I am coming from! :D
It isn't the shape of Austria, but that of Styria in the South-East of Austria (easily recognizable by the piggy shape ;D), "Steiermark" in German, so "Steirisches Glas" means Styrian glass.
Never heard of that maker, but Oberglas Bärnbach is in Styria...
Michael
-
Thank you for all opur contributions.
Gary - I started a topic http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=47412.new;topicseen#new and lo and behold it is actually early Mdina - 1970 - 1972 I am told. A most pleasant surprise as it was simply a 'like it' buy on Ebay.
Michael - I am fascinated that I now know someone from that area. I will be Googloing to find out more.
Ross
-
The sun is streaming into the livingroom this morning on to my shelves and bring some more colour into my glass.
Gary
-
ooooh gorgeous colours Gary - I love that display
m
-
Yes lovely colours. Are they all Monart or are some Vasart?
Ross
-
I suppose that's why I like Monart and Vasart because they are so colourful.
All the pieces shown are Monart.
1/ vase shape RB. 2/ vase shape N. 3/ vase shape C. 4/ powder bowl shape OB. 5/ bowl shape VG. 6/ powder bowl shape KI. 7/ bowl shape ZA. 8/ vase shape CB. 9/ bath salts jar shape SD. 10/ mushroom lamp. 11/ ginger jar shape Z.

Thought this is stunning example of a Mdina Side Stripe deserved a few pictures.
Pictures 1,2,4 taken with flash and Picture 3 without for comparison,
Enjoy
Greg

:P :P :P
Not being rude, Greg - my tongue is hanging out.... the bubbles in that are stupendous!
The only piece I have which has bubbles of a similar quality is a MH signed Seaward attenuated bottle from IoWSG.
I like this even better than John's one with coloured sides.
This one of yours is my very, very favourite-est side stripe.
-
Thanks Sue. :)
I thought I was seeing things when I first saw it, the bubbles are a fabulous addition.
Here's one final pic of my Mdina Side Stripe Themed glass display for the day.
:)
-
;D
Now you're really showing off!
The last pic is a good one for illustrating both true button rims and the slightly necked, button-y ones too. 8)
-
Some more of my Monart collection.
Gary
-
Beautiful display.......but are we seeing all the polished and dusted stuff? what lurks behind the camera?
-
Thanks Keith, but there is always some more Monart lurking behind the camera.
Gary
-
Not fair, haven't a single piece of Monart, well I thought I did till I posted it here and it turned out to be one of those 'cellophane' bowls ::)
-
You are not alone on that Keith,I bought a large vase of ebay a few year ago thinking it was Monart but turned out to be "cellophane".
Gary
-
Hi all I collect whitefriars glass such lovely items :)
what a lovely thread everyone's glass looks stunning.
best wishes.
-
Hello and welcome to the board WG2012, that looks a really nice collection...can we see them all please, just a peep is so tantalising!! ;D
-
Hi again more of my collection. :)
-
Hi Rosie thankyou for welcoming me to the forum.
I will post more pictures in the next few days as it does take a while to get the picture the right size.
its a shame the pictures cant be bigger so i can fit more in it.
I hope you all like my glass collection :)
Kind regards. :)
-
For all those who have an aviary like me I have included a link to Yobunny where I have just created my own aviary since I seem to have so many bird themed glass pieces. Quite a few can do with better photos but that is something I am startinjg to think about in the medium term. Presently I am short on time.

Gary, Greg, I'm supremely jealous. Gary I absolutely love your eye for colour and the way the colours work together, your Monart is stunning.
Here are a few of my pieces, mostly 20's /30's but a few earlier I believe and some later
m
-
M - what is the big, beautiful, blue, bubbly vase on the right hand side of the last pic?
(I know what the glorious beast on the left is ;) )
-
Sue, thanks for asking :) it's not bubbly (the photo isn't close enough to see the decor), it has a crackle interior cased with a layer with colour swooshes and then cased again. Very large, extremely heavy. Confirmed as Leveille by finding one in the same colour and coloured swooshes signed on the base, but a different shape. Mine is not signed. Just as gorgeous as the one on the left with silver inclusions :)
m
-
Very green here,if ever you get fed up with glass I'll have the jug,top right! :o :o ;D ;D
-
Thank you Keith :) I'll earmark the jug for you ;D
m
-
:'( :'( :'(
;)
-
;D - I'm pretty sure Keith's question was asked with the knowledge that the scenario is highly unlikely ;) However, if you wish me to earmark one for you as well just in case I do, let me know :-*
m
-
;) I was just thinking how Christine inspects my bags when I'm leaving, just in case I've "borrowed" her Kralik Knuckle vase with this pattern on it..... I just adore it!
:)
-
I will keep an eye out :)
m
-
Beautiful display M, love the colours and variety. :)
Slightly off topic, do you mind me enquiring where you purchased your glass shelves/stand, they show of the glass really well and also look sturdy enough to ease any fears of accidents!- I've been on the look out for some recently, although haven't been able to find anything that fits the bill.
:)
-
at the car boot for a tenner :-[
I wish I could find another taller set the same but I've absolutely no idea who made them unfortunately. I cannot bring myself to pay huge sums for shelving and equally I can only stand to look at certain types of shelves so displaying my glass is always a dilemma. They work quite well, but I would prefer to have open sided shelving really.
Sorry I cant' help more
m
-
Thanks M, you can't go far wrong for a tenner. :)
Hopefully, something similar will crop up if I keep my eyes peeled and hopefully at a similar price!
Many thanks
Greg

Keeping it minimal with two huge smoke-coloured pieces (L-R: an Antonio Da Ros sculpture for Cenedese and a flared vase by Luciano Vistosi).

Elegant!
