Title: Selkirk glassmakers
Post by: SophieB on October 19, 2012, 03:50:20 PM
Dear all,

Does anyone know who the designer was of the Selkirk limited edition 'blue lagoon' (LE 250)? I know that it was not Peter Holmes but that is all.

I hope that other dedicated Selkirk collectors have this information.

Blue Lagoon was issued in 2003 - when no designer names are given in Selkirk catalogues :-(.

This also means it was issued after Peter Holmes had left - I don't know if he had still sufficient contact with Selkirk to know about who designed which weight then.

Hi Wuff.

The master copy of Blue Lagoon - currently in my possession - is inscribed 'Selkirk Glass Scotland Blue Lagoon 1991 Master Copy', so I think the issue date of 2003 may not be correct.

That is most interesting, Alan - could you post a picture, please?

I find two weights with "Lagoon" in the name in the Selkirk catalogues:
Lagoon - 1990 - LE 500 - shows first up in 1990 catalogue (new designs were not marked then)
Blue Lagoon - 2003 - LE 250 - marked "new 2003"

Would your "Blue Lagoon" be a different weight? Either a commissioned weight (and as such not in the catalogues) - or the name was changed - or ....?

I am looking forward to seeing a picture :).

Hi Wuff

It is the same as the lower weight - very odd. I'll send you more detailed images.

Dear Sophie - do you actually own the weight (or have it in your hands anyway)? If yes - Selkirk signatures usually give the year of manufacture - which year is it?

Sorry - was too fast ::) ... Alan just sent me the images of your weight - which has 1991 in the signature.
