Title: Two Crizzle Stones for show
Post by: chilternhills on May 22, 2017, 05:55:38 PM
I was really chuffed to find a Crizzle Stone today while on holiday.  :o I was definitely not expecting that! The seller was knowledgeable and I paid a correct retail price. But I had to have it. The museum now has two Crizzle Stones in its collection, one originating in the Mark Hill Collection. Neither are signed, unfortunately, but perhaps only half are signed anyway. You can see that the new one has a purplish interior and is a little smaller than the one with the blue interior.

 :)
As Michael Harris was the only person at Mdina to ever make Crizzle Stones you do know it is his work whether it is marked or not. ;D
The ones Tim made at IoWSG were completely different shapes, thankfully, or certain sorts of folk would be faking marks on them. ::)

As your new one is so similar to mine, can I ask if one "wing" is actually larger than the other, height wise?
It is in mine, which makes it look properly balanced when it is displayed.
The extra glass on the one side counteracts optical effects which would otherwise make it look unbalanced.

I don't know if this was a deliberate design feature, or just a fortunate accident.
I'm curious. :)

By eye it looks pretty symmetrical. I am still at the hotel and have nothing to measure with accurately.

That is the funny thing about it. It does look symmetrical, but only because of the true non-symmetry.

Lovely Anton, what a stroke of good luck. I paid a retail price for mine too and not a regret in sight...

The wings on this one sagged a bit so it has a bit of a flatter bottom.

That is a stunning example......... I would have found it impossible to resist.
