I think the vases are lovely but first it would have to be determined if they are reproductions or not. Search for reproduction Galle on the net and you'll find several pages. My 2 cents.
-
I think you would need to get these professionally appraised by someone actually handling them, there are too many reproductions out there. Unless of course you have original documentation. People on this site will also not generally give valuations, they are too subjective.

Hi
I do occasionaly give Galle valuations but never just from photos
I will offer a few comments from your photos
I can't tell if first (reds ) one is old or fake -it does look like a lamp base rather than the vase (foot is biggest part suggesting it's meant to support something bigger) and it looks like the decoration goes to the very top -so it might be a little cut down -I realy can't say much more from the photos
The second one does look much more like a classic old one -but again photos limit infomation badly
Photos of bottom including pontil would help and better image of shape of second one
PS please note I will be offline now for a week -sorry
cheers
Mike

Just from what I can see in the pics, those look OK to me but I would be terrible at valuation - I would contact Ragoarts.com or take them somewhere where an expert could look at them hands-on.

Hi
sorry been away for about a week
thanks so much for the extra pictures -makes a world of difference
The first one I think is definitely a lamp base (reduces the value a bit -not a lot) its doesn't look cut down - I was wrong there. The pontil looks quite good, but impossible to be sure from a photo (need to rock it and see how the light illuminates the different surfaces)
I see the yellow has been polished out behind the flowers (on the inside of the vase) -that's a good sign and helps tell if its fake.
you can do a bit of experimenting for yourself.............
Try to get your fingers inside the vase an run them on the inner surface where the yellow has been polished out - if there is a ridge between yellow and clear it is probably a fake, if there is a smooth interface then its very likely good.
OK that's the good news I hope.
The landscape
it's a very high probability is true Galle from the picture
but the shape is a bit unusual and the signature looks quite high on the body for such a small piece -furthermore the way the landscape decoration finishes near the surface looks a little odd. All this would make me very worried that it might have once been much taller. -and here I stop - as that's a think that can only be told by handling.
sorry
hope this helps --you can tell a lot from good photos like these, but it would be impossible to be sure on these pieces without handling them!
as for dates
that is a very interesting subject at the moment as different academic experts have different views on dates
-I have books that would suggest these are c1900
-I have other books that would say they are 1905-1914
-a recent book suggests they are 1918-1930
again sorry I can't be more help
cheers
Mike

Thanks for the Words of Wisdom!
I checked the vase on inside and it's smooth behind flowers with NO ridge or anything...
I took a few pics of inside that I can post or email...
I inherited several pieces of quality glass and these are a couple...My grandmother said she bought them in the 1930's....
I would like to get an appraisal from someone close to Indiana??? Any ideas? Perhaps Chicago has someone available? I will offer these to the public once their history is proven...
Thanks again and God bless...

That's interesting that they did cutting/polishing inside. I never knew that was a common technique in cameo. Was it done by many firms?
Beautiful pieces! I especially like the lamp base. How I'd love to have something like that, even if only for a little while.

Chervenka describes and illustrates how grinding out the design from inside the vase brightens the colours and is a good test for a repro or fake. It is worth by the book for the info and pictures. Just $25 new. ISBN 0 87349 236 6
-
I found it on Amazon for $0.98 New -
ISBN-10: 0873494369
ISBN-13: 978-0873494366 (Is this right?)
What do the different ISBNs mean?
I'm grabbing a copy, sounds like it's worth the price at least! Thanks for suggesting it.
...EDIT: Whoops, different book. That was the right ISPN.

All you never wanted to know about ISBN numbers here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISBN)

Thanks, Christine! Sometimes my questions just slip out before I realize that I can just as easily look it up myself, rather than trouble others to do it! Wikipedia has its faults, but in general it's a pretty phenomenal resource.

At least by asking you will get told of Wikipedia is wrong. A differing number would be a different printing/edition.
