Title: Probably modern Czech vase, but who and when?
Post by: astrid on October 17, 2012, 06:42:28 AM
I'm in the process of buying one of these lovely vases, but to hammer out the price I need an ID. The seller has graciously allowed me to post his picture for the ID purpose.

We both think they might be fairly recent Czech, by Beranek or Skrdlovice, but I can't find this particular design (maybe because I'm a half-blind idiot who overlooks it in the pattern books...). It also could be from one of the studio's, like Svoboda. It definitely has stylistic features in common with the Beranek production of the late 90's.

Who knows more? I don't have a picture of the base, I assume it's polished flat. We can't provide more pictures at the moment since both vases are in storage.

Beautiful...  the piece was designed by Jaroslav Svoboda for Skrdlovice (pattern number 9001), and later also produced at his glassworks.  I believe the one posted above is Svoboda, Karlov production.

Thanks Anik, you're so good at this... Do you study 100 Czech vases every day before you go to sleep :)?

Indeed one of these 'I skipped right over it in the pattern book because the colours were different' *thunk*.

Astrid, I was only pretending to be clever.  I found the same vase a few months ago, which was produced at Sklarska Hut AGS Jaroslav Svoboda, signed 'J. Svoboda' to the base.  David (langhaugh) bought it and was the one who pointed out the Skrdlovice pattern number.   :)
