Title: Early mdina side stripe.
Post by: Marc1976 on June 27, 2016, 09:46:20 PM
Thought I'd share a recent find. Early button top side stripe vase with amethyst stripes and chloride banding.

 :o
Wowow!
It's a real beauty! I love the very deep section of clear towards the bottom - it makes the internal amethyst round bit look all "suspended" inside, and emphasises it wonderfully.

John and I each have a much-treasured side stripe with amethyst stripes, the same design as this. We had to wait and search and wait and search, it took us both a long time to find them.
 >:( Yours is quite possibly nicer than ours. :P  ;)

Oh, and if it were mine, I would be quite happy to believe it was made by Michael Harris. No proof, just that it's gorgeous and the silver deposits on the outside spiral around and it's got the button rim and it's balanced...

Hi.

Thanks for the kind replies  :D. It measures an impressively huge 4.25"   :o. It was found at Malvern flea market at the back of a stall   ;D. I do really like it but I now only collect Whitefriars and IoW brown globes, so there's no room for it  :'(.

Oooh, IoWSG brown globes, eh?
(I assume you do mean IoW Studio Glass?) and do you mean the Tortoiseshell ones? With spirals of brown and yellow, with bubbles, like these?

Thems the ones  ;D. Love the last one, does it have the coach bolt pontil?

Here are three of mine.

Coach-bolt pontil mark, a Michael Harris signature and a white rectangular "Hand made Isle of Wight" paper label.
But it's the smallest I have, about 4-5" tall.
The first one there is massive at about 8", and the middle one, my favourite, is about 5-6" tall. (They're all high up and I can't find a tape measure atm).

It would look better if I put them all together for one pic, to show relative sizes. ::)

Here you go, all in a row.

These are permanently out in my kitchen. Get hit by the evening sun and then the silver chloride shines.

7" through 5.5", 5" and 3.5".

I will see if I can fill some size gaps there must be some in-betweenies !

Have fun

Andrew

I've got some rather unusual and very large bits of Aurene, but not a globe. I've never had a BIG Aurene globe.
 :P to you, Andrew! ;)

Marc, pm me if you're interested in the Michael Harris signed, coachbolt-marked, globe with label (or either of the others, I'm downsizing  :) ) Click on the envelope in my profile to do that. The board will send me your message and email address, and I can write back to you.
