Title: Queens Choice Bagley
Post by: Eugénie on January 19, 2017, 09:26:36 AM
Sometimes you have to.....!  Cleaning my big showcase in the hall with hundreds and hundreds of glass ring holders, a very clear  Rd number caught my eye : Rd 698049. I stopped cleaning and started searching. Not that difficult!  Herewith a photo.  Anne, feel free to use it for your GTS. Saw  too that in october an amber coloured  Queens Choice power box was offered at eBay.  No bids though.

Wow! I had no idea that there was a ring holder in Queens Choice, Eugénie!  That's a super find... in the Bagley Glass book (Bowey, Parsons and Parsons) Angela says there was a powder bowl in Queen's Choice, but no other parts of a boudoir set in that pattern, so I am sure she will be delighted to hear about this one.  I will add to the site as soon as possible, thank you. :)

Brilliant Eugenie! I read this post and it inspired me to check an amber tray and candlesticks I have for an RD Number, and lo and behold there it was on the top side of the tray RD 698049! The candlesticks are stylistically matched perfectly with the tray and a Queen's Choice bowl which I already owned, the glass even feels the same.

While surfing around the GTS Mysteries section I then spotted the same set in Amber, Blue and Frosted/Satin Uranium, the Amber images are the actual set I purchased a while back, and there with the blue items is a Queens Choice Bowl in blue and what appears to be a ring holder in blue exactly the same as yours!

So there we are, it seems Bagley DID make a full Dressing Table Set / Trinket Set / Vanity Set in the Queen's Choice pattern, comprising at least a Tray, Powder Pot, Candlesticks and Ring Holder.

I will upload some pics of the RD Number and Set asap.

Actually the Bagley Queen's Choice lidded powder/trinket pot/bowl pattern number 1122 came in 2 sizes, 7 inch and 5 inch, so you could easily make a standard 5 piece set with just one large pot, or a 7 piece set with one large pot and 2 smaller pots.  8)

Also it may be worth noting the lid of my 5 in bowl and the candlestick base are exactly the same size.

Wow! Jayne, that is a fabulous find! :) <--- a smiley doesn't seem sufficient, I want a bouncing up and down with excitement emoticon!  Let me email Angela Bowey now - she is working on the Bagley eBook currently, so will be keen to see these I am sure!

Yes Anne, I am also rather excited by this find! However I managed to crack the tray right across the middle just before taking the pics, I've never had this happen before and was quite surprised as I laid it quite gently on the cloth covered table. It's still in one piece (just) and the crack doesn't really show in the pics, but I wondered if its somewhat more fragile than it looks, it's rather solid and heavy, and could this be why this piece seems fairly rare? Anyway my excitement faded slightly after this disaster, but still at least I got the pics before it falls into 2 pieces!  ;D

Oh no, that's so sad Jayne... but if it does crack with a clean break you should be able to repair it with some of the UV curing glass glue that dries clear. I've fixed some mishaps with that myself. :)

That's good to know Anne, thanks. And yes I hope Angela Bowey is as excited as we are by this find! :)

I've emailed Ang, and am hoping to hear from her soon. I know she has a busy few days just now though.

I forgot to ask, may I add your pics to the GTS website too please?

Those photographs of the ring holder, candlesticks and tray with the Queen's Choice registration number are wonderful. Well done. It always seemed odd that they should produce a powder bowl in Queen's Choice without other parts of the trinket set. I'll have to search my Bagley adverts now to see if they did advertise it but we didn't recognise it as Queens Choice.
I would very much like some photos for the forthcoming book A Treasury of Bagley Glass that I'm working on with Anne's help.
Best wishes, Angela

You are welcome to use my photos Angela, or if you need something different or better I'd be happy to attempt more, they are not the best photos I've ever done as I rushed to get them uploaded in the excitement!

It would be super if I could locate a Queens choice ring holder in Amber to make a full 5 piece set, or additionally another 5 inch pot and a 7 inch pot in Amber to make a 7 piece set, I will start looking but it could take some time! :D

Hi Jayne,
I hope I'm not breaking the rules by letting you know that I have a five inch amber bowl listed on Ebid.net.  Would be happy to swap it for a green frosted one, if you have a spare.

I recently picked up a frosted seven inch bowl and am now looking for the five to go with it.

Funny to read what happens when one has posted a message and a photo.....   :) . Angela feel free to use my photo of the green ring holder for your book. If you need an other one of the Rd number, please let me know.  And now I have to search for that amber one......
