Title: red and green ashtray dish any ideas F poli maybe??
Post by: jonchellycain on August 17, 2009, 09:36:49 AM
Picked this pretty little dish up for 20p at a jumble sale. It has a beautiful deep red core which is cased in a bright green (again i would have bet my last pound on it being Uranium and its not, this one almost glows by daylight but not by UV).
flat polished base, pretty weighty, 13cms in diameter
My thoughts where Murano maybe a Flavio Poli piece??
many thanks
michelle

Anita may know more than I, but fairly typical Murano.

Not a Poli piece, as it is not really colors he worked with, and, more importantly, his designs were more architectural in feel. Elegant simplicity with well defined forms. The look of the green, and it not being UV reactive would lead me to conclude it is a little newer piece, as in 1970's or newer.

Italian Sommerso glass seems to have become to Seguso and Flavio Poli as it seems all two colored (Tango) Czech glass has become to Loetz and Michael Powolny.  An internet myth that may never die!
