Title: Can anybody find the article about these silver topped vases?
Post by: Angela B on January 23, 2007, 01:26:07 AM
A long time ago I read an article about silver topped vases. It stated that although the tops are often hallmarked for British silversmiths the vases were mostly imported from Europe. I think it even gave some details of who imported them or where they came from. I saw this pair on eBay just recently and I wondered if anybody else remembers that article, or indeed any other information about these kinds of vases:

I have quite a few of these vases from the 1890s through to around 1930 and they are fascinating. Does anybody else collect them apart from me? And can anyone point me to that article?
Many thanks
Angela

ps I found a couple more very interesting pics of silver topped vases:

Hi folks,
Sorry for the slow reply - I had some urgent work to complete for a couple of days.
Wow that ASCAS site is full of fascinating information about silver.
So far I have only found one article about silver tops, and that related to dressing table sets and perfume bottles, not vases. I can ask them a question, though.
When I find out a bit more about them I'm planning to do an article for the Glass Museum using pictures of the various kinds in my collection.
So, any information anybody can tell me would be very much appreciated.
All the best, and thank you all for your help and the links and for being interested!
Angela
