Fabulous bowl, not usually my kind of thing but couldnt leave it behind and already seriously fond of it
Rubbish pics but there is a lion, elephant and rhino with trees & rocks around the whole bowl
It has a very wide ground pontil and age related wear to the base, heavy and rings like a bell
8 and 3/4 inches wide x 6 and a half inches tall
also came with 6 paper thin tumblers each engraved with a different african animal & scenery and 3 liqueur glasses with similar designs
Must have been one hellava suite when new :)
Had expected to find a signature somewhere but not found one yet - anyone got any ideas please?
cheers
Mel

That HAS to be signed somewhere... have you peered carefully in the design, could a signature or initials be incorporated with it?
Is it copper-wheel engraved or something else? I'm afraid I can't see enough detail in the photgraphs to make out the actual quality of work very clearly.
My impression is that it is porbably fabulous and I want to see it better!

Note that that set is not sold!
-
yes, I had noticed that lol

A very reputable seller of high quality glass though. :)
And very, very well sleuthed, Your Editorialshipness :-*
-
No sleuthing, just a memory that wasn't down the black hole

That is a really beautiful bowl Mel, I was just about to say was it our own Lesley Pyke, when Christine came up with Roland Ward.
Are you going to buy the other glasses... it would be wondeful to have the whole set.
Just for a moment I was transported back to my home in East Africa... and sunshine. :)
-
think its wheel etched Sue - this is the best close up I can get at the moment
still no sig, apparently they were either acid stamped to the base or had a paper label so guess that explains that.
Hi Rosie yes can see it would take you back, my dad spent time in Kenya I expect it will do the same thing to him too when he clocks it.
Sadly, no wont be keeping...well the glasses anyway. May not be able to part with the bowl at least for now anyway ;D
((christine)) and black hole of a memory, can sympathise with that

I was at school in Kenya, in Eldoret, was your Dad anywhere near there?
Feel free to pm if you like....envelope on the left.

I'll ask him Rosie, he's coming to visit this week. he did his national service in Kenya and was stationed near Nairobi I think but I'll double check :)
