Title: Now that the auction has finished anyone know what this 'french' weight was???
Post by: Glassheart on October 15, 2010, 04:24:15 PM
Hi, I watching this weight with interest and it sold for a reasonable price, albeit damaged and not in the best condition

Does anyone know what it is?  St Louis....perhaps?

Hi.  It was (is?) an antique Saint-Louis upright bouquet. I bid on it, but the damage looked to go very deep into the side, and it might only be restorable by adding a ring of facets, which would (IMO) spoil it. So I did not bid anywhere near as much as the winner!

In general, a slight chip has a latent bruise underneath it, and a major bruise like this weight had would run a lot deeper than it appears visually.

Hi Alan,

I'm getting good at this, although no way in your league! Pretty weight, haven't seen too many of these bouquet style french going around.

Apologies for grammar, I do tend to drift into 'Chav' every now and then  ;D

regards, Monty
