This little fellow is only 1.5 inches high. Does anyone have a clue as to where he might have come from?
-
He might be tiny, but his funny little face is quite reminiscent of the fabby figurines made of different professions in Czechoslovakia... the name escapes me atm. :-[
-
Most likely from Lauscha, Germany.
-
Thank you both!
Ivo, I've had a look at Lauscha. No further forward really but I realise lampwork figures are usually almost impossible to pin down. On the PLUS side though, I have a litlle glass cocktail set including holder which I had wondered about and now I think it must be Lauscha. I'll start a new post for that.
Cheers!

The name I had lost is Jaroslav Brychta. :)
-
Is he a contender Sue? (Edit - Just had a quick google - looks promising!)
HFNY BTW!
-
I've not seen any tiny Brychta figures, Nancy, but there is something about the way the face is so full of character - and the colours look right.
Lang may yer lum reek! :-*
-
Well I found these
http://www.tamatam.cz/news/sklo-sklenene-figurky-a-muj-deda/
but I'm not sure if they're Brychta. The shapes look similar but they don't have much in the way of faces.
-
Maybe he used Wayne Rooney as his model - while practising! ;)
-
I don't think your figure is Czech. Skiing figures were made by ZBS, but they look a bit different. Take a look at this catalogue from Pamela's site: ZBS skiing figure (http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Glassexport-1955-Figuren.153+B6YmFja1BJRD0xNTMmcHJvZHVjdElEPTY2NDkmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTUzJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html)
Anik :)
-
Thanks for that Anik. Yes I agree; the more I've looked at Brychta and other Czech figures the less likely my skier looks to be Czech. Maybe Lauscha as Ivo suggested - they do produce a wide variety of lampwork figures.
-
Hi it looks to be a close match to item 2057 from the Jostra catalog but not a definite, the feet and arms are slightly off.
I would be really stoked to see a pic of your cocktail set... :-)

Thank you so much D.
Can you tell me who or what is Jostra, or is there a website I can have a look at? I'm not a collector any more but still love to find out when, where and by whom my pieces were made.
Here is a link to my cocktail set query. I think the consensus was that it was Bimini. No longer in my possession 🙁

(Hope I've managed to post the link ok.)

Had to go a long long way for this info but a snippet...
Jostra, founded by Joseph Traut in 1927, one of the Traut Brothers, a whole family of Master glassblowers from Neuhaus am Rennweg, one of the brother set up a company that went on to become a world leader in pharmaceutical glass http://www.heim-pharma.de/en/
In 1936, the Jostra's product range was presented for the first time at the Leipziger Messe, his perfume bottles were in great demand, examples can be seen at the museum in Neuhaus.
The one in the auction house is probably number 2015 :-)
-
That's a fantastic id :)
there is a listing for a Jostra piece here with a label and further documentation:

and some history on the family:

Well found, that Gondola has been tempting me, I already have a complete one though, there is some Basic info from Joseph's son Horst on the site, I have just finished translating the family history of the brothers and it's quite a revelation :-)
To find out more the place to visit is the home of Heinrich Geissler (the inventor of Neon lights) now a museum.
-
I did see a set of Halogen blue halogen bulbs in that museum as well - is that where they were invented?
and thank you for the id - I did some more investigating and have 'discovered' a number of German glass artists I had no idea about, so that is very exciting and interesting.

Yes the museum is in the house / workroom of Heinrich Geissler the old furnace is out the back, did you see all the Neon art in the dark room?
-
ooh no, I LOVE neon art
Will do some more investigating later. Thank you so much - fabulous information.
