Here is a puzzle (to me at least). ??? I have this charming little clear glass comport:

It has the Regd design number 486298 on the smooth surface of the platform, which indicates that it's the decoration associated with Davidson's 1907 suite.
Chris & Val Stewart's book tells me that the 1907 suite decoration is usually seen in the small flower sets but was originally made in a number of much larger bowls.
Was it made in this pinched rim comport? If not, is this a forgery? :o

Got me stumped! Looking at the registered designs on http://www.cloudglass.com/r19011910.htm doesn't help either.
I'm sure Chris will be able to shed some light on this, but I very much doubt it is a forgery.

As it's the 1907 Suite I think you'll find it was made in a whole range of shapes. The compote is a known shape for Davidson: http://www.cloudglass.com/VictorianComport.htm

The pattern is also a known Davidson type (1907), but I can't find an example in flint or as a comport, like Roz's.

Roz / Sherlock — The 1907 Suite plain-edged comport is well-known, both flat- and wavy-edged. I must have had a dozen or more through my hands. They were popular with cafés and shops a few years back when legislation came in about keeping food under cover — because of the small footprint. We've a large cake stand in this pattern that we use for the Christmas cake.
Look for items other than utilititarian tableware for the scarcer items in Davidson's yearly suites. Such as their metal mounted wares, and even epergnes.

Yes, as everyone has said this is a davidson 1907 comport. Normally the large bowls, comports and dishes have a fan design around edge - something which is missing from the smaller 1907TD flower bowls. I guess with this comport they decided to leave out the fan design as it would look odd with the wavy edge.
You don't often see the bowls, dishes and comports in this pattern. Mostly it is the 1907T and TD flower bowls that have survived.
Personally I like the these old dishes and comports - we use them all the time. We have a large 11" 1910 dish which is perfect for trifles. No 20 and 21 bowls also make great salad bowls. And you cannot beat a two tier polished black glass cake stand for making cakes look irresistible.
One of the photographs for our next Davidson book includes one of these cake stands. Val wanted to 'decorate' them with some knitted cakes (yes - you can buy knitted cakes!), but good taste won out !!

And so the wheel turns full circle - the first cake stand/comport I sold was to a lady who made knitted cakes and wanted to display them appropriately!
