Title: Vasart or Strathearn?
Post by: adam20 on November 06, 2011, 09:52:02 AM
Paperweight pin tray with thick glass walls and blue ground - I think it is Scottish and perhaps Vasart but could be wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks Adam

I would agree with Vasart. The orange canes look like the classic Vitrolite (did I spell that right?) ones.

Agree with vasart, unusual to see the cross cane as an independent isn't it ? Roger.

Independent cross cane - unusual? Yes, but not really uncommon.

See the inner row in this labelled Vasart Ltd (http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/pages/vas-strath/weight11.htm) weight. I also have another with a stand-alone cross but it's not featured in any of my web pages.
And there's also the one at bottom right in this weight (http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/pages/salv-ybros/cane-item02.htm).
And top-left in this one (http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/pages/salv-ybros/cane-item05.htm).

Also note that simple cog canes were sometimes used independently - see here (http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/pages/salv-ybros/cane-item07.htm), row 3 column 2 & 4.

Thanks Roger and Kevin

Thanks for reference photos - I'm still learning about Vasart but do love their weights - this seemmed a good buy at £30.00 local antiques shop.

Yes a reasonable price although they vary a great deal according to their cane complexity, as most things really. I have sold them at £60 and £14. If you find that you have bought one which you are not too keen on now, use it for a practical purpose, putting false teeth in or something. Roger.
