Title: Kralik Art Deco - pulled trailed yellow, blue, topaz - decor name?
Post by: flying free on September 26, 2013, 04:24:06 PM
Is there a name for this decor yet please?
I picked this up today.  I've been hankering after a vase but none to be seen so had to be content with the jug.  It huge as it's a lemonade jug.  The photo really does not do the colours justice - the camera doesn't like the combination I think.
The handle is dark blue and the pulls are yellow over blue right up to the rim.
Dimpled pontil mark area on the base, not polished, acid etched mark 'czechoslovakia'.  I've only come across this mark over here in the UK on another jug I had.  Not on any other pieces I've found.

Thanks for looking Anne :)
I use this site here (see link) mostly but I can't see a decor thread for it at the moment although there are a couple of pics on the main homepage
http://kralik-glass.com/frametemplate.html

The site you linked to is also very useful but I don't know if it has been updated recently as I think (open to correction) that there might be some 'Kralik Silberband' vases on there that have now been id'd as Fritz Heckert.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

Simply the neatest, coolest Jug I have ever seen regardless of manufacture.

thank you both  :)
It has a small crack at the top of the handle unfortunately, so I'd never use it, but for display I love it.  I've been searching for must be over a year for one.  And actually although I really wanted a vase, the decor on the jug shape works better, because of the blue handle.

I have not actually applied a name to this. It is kind of like a cross between "Flame" and also the way colors are used in many examples of "Bambus".

The pulled decor combined with the threading at the top is a great decor. The green in the pulls will also glow with UV light, so this decor has a little bit of a bunch of different stuff.

This is my favorite decor in the Lemonade sets Kralik did....  Nice find... They do not come along all that often.

Here is an image of my set with glasses.  All of the pieces are marked with an arched Czechoslovakia.

thanks :)
And your photo shows the colours much better than I could.
I have a bambus jug using the same yellow and blue colours but it's a clear ground rather than the topaz colour.

Ken, that is high praise :) thank you.  I think having the handle adds something to the decor - the vases look a little plainer because they don't have the added shape and colour, so I'm quite pleased now.

I'm not entirely sure what piece of research I'm looking at but I came across a black and white picture of this piece in becher form (i.e. one of the water glasses) and reference for it
'sa Dexel, Typenkatalog 1986, S. 134; Klesse, Glaskatalog Köln; Beispiele in den meisten Publikationen zum mittelalterlichen Glas und zur Zeit um 1900)'

It appears to say this is dated to around 1900 - I think?   A lot earlier than I'd thought.

Here is a Google Translation of the German, whihc is always a little cryptic. :-):

"sa adzes , type catalog 1986, p 134 ; Klesse , glass catalog of Cologne; Examples in most publications on medieval glass and for early 1900"

The translation of that text appears to reference a catalog of medieval glass and it says early 1900, which I am going to assume is a translation for early 1900's.

The mark commonly found on these precludes a 1900 time frame. This production is pretty firmly ca 1925-35. Some may call that early 1900's.

Possibly a German / English speaking member can translate the phrase more concisely.
