Post by: Cathy B on January 26, 2007, 02:16:49 PM
Can anyone help with this little creature? It seems to be signed 'GS'.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm. The sig is either very clear, most likely GS, but upside down could be SG or 58 - can't see Mtarfa in it at all.

Gozo Studio? Also Maltese. I posted one with similar markings on Frank's Glass Zoo that was signed Gozo.

Edit: might be Gg - the lower case 'g' for glass could look like an 's' perhaps? Mine is signed 'Gozo glass'

Not Mtarfa, although possible on style, more squiggles in Mtarfa signature

I agree , should be more squiggles, but the straight line looks like the 't' in mtarfa,

Thanks Andy, Christine, David, and Anne. Perhaps it's my photograph, but I can't see anything remotely like those sigs on the piece itself. It's quite a tiny sig. David, Gg is a distinct possibility.

Thanks everyone.

It is signed GS after all. Here's a labeled mate (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400031043934) on eBay, identifying the bird as from Gordon Studio (http://www.gordonstudio.com.au/gallery_studio.html). The pattern can be found here (http://www.gordonstudio.com.au/portfolio/folio.html) by clicking on PRODUCTION and scrolling to the picture in the bottom right, under the koalas.

Crikey, that took some finding Cathy. ;) Good to see a result finally though... and another new name for us to explore. :)

Not quite right Frank.  Eileen is the daughter of Alisdair & Rish Gordon who live & work in Perth, as does their talented son Kevin.

At the time this was originally put up I think that she was still working in Rosebud a suburb of Melbourne on the bay.  At or about this time she mover to Red Hill a little further inland and a little closer to Melbourne.  She is married to Grant Donaldson (an ex farmer turned glass artist) and they have children - one of whom, Hamish I have already bought a pwt from.

Grant signs his pieces "Grant Donaldson" or "G Donaldson" - he mainly makes large pieces.
Eileen signs hers "Eileen Gordon" or "EG"
Hamish signed his as "H Donaldson"

In addition they have always had production Pwts and other smaller items signed "GS" which means they were intended as production items and may have been made by anyone at the studio including such well known assistants as Nadia Mercuri (herself a well respected artist who assisted the day I had a go at making some pwts).

I have examples of all of the Gordon family as well as of Grant & Hamish Donaldson.
