Post by: kennyg on February 15, 2011, 03:28:45 PM
Just wondering if this is vintage from the 50's?

I usually see this attributed to Fratelli Toso and an earlier date. I can't remember what the date was. I hope someone else will know for sure.

Hi Anita,

I'm familiar with the vases attributed to Fratelli Toso...the only reason I mentioned 'Barovier Toso'  was because I saw a nearly identical vase attributed to them in Leslie Pina's 'Fifties Glass' book...

That confused me, too, when I saw it. I don't trust Fifties Glass because it has so many mistakes in it. I wish we could find a piece like this that had a label. I don't see this pattern a lot, but often enough to be curious about it. Svazzo knows a good bit about this type of glass. Maybe someone could give him a poke so he'll give us a better idea.

Here is a similar, though not exact, vase on Antique Helper attributed to Fratelli Toso. But still no label or anything definite. http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/326355. There is another that is closer in appearance, but no label here, either. http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/366337

I rarely see any of the millefiori pieces that still have a label. Even the ones from the 1950s are missing theirs. The style of your vase does remind me more of FT than B&T. But one never can tell. I get surprised a good bit.

I was about to add exactly what Anita has said about the lack of labels, I have the same problem with some of my collection.

Your's from the pics looks fine, but have you noticed how many of the murrine vases are turning up on ebay lately ?

Yes Martin - there is a seller in OZ who seems to have a constant stream of it as well as Latticino. Of course it could all be OK but when there is that much you start to wonder where they get it from.

I bought a small piece of latticino from them and have no complaints but on the other hand I know almost nothing about general latticino.
