Title: gold filigrana twists with detailed large fish flat base domed weight
Post by: flying free on July 15, 2012, 08:31:43 PM
I'm not sure how to described this.  I bought it today, has lots of nicks and a few little chips so not in the best condition but it is, to my eye, really beautifully made.
The twist are gold filigrana (? I think that's what you would call them) and spoke out all across the base and then the fish is suspended two thirds of the way up and is really detailed.
The weight is polished flat base and the sides go straight down to the base without curving in so it's a dome if you know what I mean.
It's 3" diameter by 2 1/4" high.
Is it a Murano piece?  and when might it date to please?
Many thanks
m

I have had several broadly similar fish weights, and have always assumed they were Murano, from the 1960 - 1980 period.  In some the fish were upright, in others flat.  I cannot be certain of that attribution, but I don't know who else might have made them.
