Title: Anyone ever seen a pressed/slag glass mantle clock?
Post by: mikenott on April 13, 2018, 10:18:43 PM
Many years ago - in about 1984 - I used to buy from Messers Blicq and Inch who were one of the main pressed glass dealers in the UK at the time and who had a stall in Portobello Road. As I worked near Victoria Station there were times when I went to their residence (in Hammersmith?) to drop off/pick up glass. During one visit, they showed me a slag glass mantle clock with a registry marlk on it. I think it was blue marbled and it had been broken and glued back together. It was about12" high and had a hole made during manufacture on the front to insert a clock mechanism. As I recall it had an inverted "V" top and I seem to remember a portico type front. But it was 30 years ago......

Has anyone ever seen/heard of this clock? Just interested - it must have been rare as they rarely kept slag glass pieces and this one had pride o place.

Any information gratefully received.

Michael.

Can you recall if the registered mark was a diamond lozenge type or just the number, Michael? It might help track it down...

It was definitely a registry lozenge/kite mark. I suppose it could have been for the clock design as I can't recall the Class Number. But it was prominently on display on the back of the clock. I think.

Thank you, the diamond mark would make it earlier than 1884.
