Title: aubergine knobbly ashtray pipeholder - czech skrdlovice?
Post by: jonchellycain on August 09, 2009, 06:35:14 PM
Hi there
i picked this up today, with the thought it may be a piece of whitefriars one of the knobblies by Dyer, but ive put it onto www.whitefriars.com and they so no  http://www.whitefriars.com/isit_contents.php?ID=7606 (http://www.whitefriars.com/isit_contents.php?ID=7606)
Thoughts where possible Liskeard but the only liskeards ive ever seen have the mark to the base another suggestion was czech
does anybody have any idea?
The tool marks are more eye shaped than the whitefriars S shape, it has the bottom base which has a ground and polished pontil then on the side there is another polished part so that it can sit on its side. I do think it was originally designed this way as it has been really well done also it matches up with the pushed in lip maybe a pipeholder and ashtray????
10cms tall 10cms in diameter gorgous aubergiene colour (which matches perfectly to the whitefriars colour) heavily cased in clear glass

many thanks in advance
michelle

Ive never been that confident about this one being liskeard as it is quite different to the knobblies ive had before and the couple i still have, but there maybe another string to this bow... today i found this listed under completed on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bohemian-Art-Glass-Bowl-Sklo-Union-Skrdlovice_W0QQitemZ110428029910QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Art_Glass?hash=item19b60603d6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
could it be???
If possible could on of you wonderful mods pop czech skrdlovice into the title and hopefully one of the czech glass brains will pick it up
thank you
michelle

I would attribute this piece to Beranek (Jan, Rudolf, Bohuslav????) - Skrdlovice 1950 - 1959. Some Skrdlovice photoes you can find at my album http://picasaweb.google.de/Jindra8526, I will add more as soon as I will find some free time.

Good message is that exhibition Magic of Glass in Pardubice is prolonged probably until the end of year. So you have good reason for visting of Czech republic.

A friend of mine went over a few months back and she said it was beautiful

Michelle,
My apologies, for my arrogance in assuming that CGR would be understood.
Czechoslovak Glass Review, 1973, issue 5 page 27.
Generally only available through academic libraries or the British Library.

Hi Norman,
happy to hear you are safely at home again. Pictures were taken on opening exhibition by Sonia, my ones are a bit worse. As soon as I will sort it I will display them as well.
