could be major howler from me . looking more closely at the base and sides, that could be a very thick black glaze on a pottery body!Sorry about that folks.
I would still be interested as to it's purpose but maybe put on the right forum

Glass / It's a mystery to me.

After a good look around the net i cant see anything close.
First thought was paperweight ?
Then linen smoother then maybe a muller for grinding solid paint.
The number on the base is a puzzle as well.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
It is 103mm in diameter and 51mm high.

Glass Trinket Sets / Davidson Clear Glass Tray Cut Top and Bottom
« Last post by Jayne on Yesterday at 04:28:07 PM »An example of a Davidson clear glass tray "cut top and bottom" as stated in the 1956 Pattern Book.
I've had this tray for years and never found an attribution or other pieces of a set to go with it.
It does appear between two trinket sets in the pattern book though, Page 10.

Nice jug, more unusual decoration with the cut star I think. There is a pressed jug from Percival Yates reg. 183352 dated 1865 that has a similar type of star decoration, so might indicate a date for your blown/cut one if that’s when the design was fashionable. https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,66313.msg371634.html#msg371634

« Last post by Jayne on Yesterday at 12:15:54 PM »In the 1953 Sowerby Catalogue, Trinket Set 2638 is advertised under 'NEW ATTRACTIONS' and "ALL GLASSSWARE ILLUSTRATED ON THIS PAGE MADE ONLY IN OUR FAMOUS ROSALIN SHADE"

As we know the set was made in many other colours; amber, blue, pink, green, uranium green, matt pink, matt green, matt blue, and some are part matt/frosted.
Does this mean all the other colours came after 1953, and Rosalin (Pink) being a 'new attraction' in 1953 was the first time 2638 was produced as we have 1940's as a base date for production?
