hi all
I have a very nice 4" H - 2 1/2" w strange paper weight...hoping for any help with ID or age.
Ribbed sides..Star like cut knob top and bottom controlled bubble center...
No markings at all..
There is one elongated bubble coming through bottom that is open..creating a little hole
TIA

You can rule out Whitefriars i am sure.

thanks so much for looking and your reply ;)

I have seen knob topped cylindrical Murano weights but I haven't seen one that had fancy cutting like that. Might be Murano.
-
Is that cut or molded?
Mike

thank you both for your replies...
appears to be molded...as" cuts" are very smooth

It's cut. I can tell from the close up of the base. The last cut is that unbroken line that is almost vertical in the second photo.

Thanks...I am so used to American Brilliant Cut Glass (which I also collect)-that I am used to very sharp ,intricate cuts and anything other than that makes me think molded and or pressed glass. ;)

This isn't as precisely done as the glass you collect. You generally can't see which cut in the last because it's so perfectly executed. The lack of precision and the rounding of the edges is another thing that makes me think this piece might be Murano.
I could be Czech too, but I have very little experience with that type of glass.

I guess it will be one that I may never get a definitive ID on :-\
