Title: Paperweight identificaion help needed
Post by: Hallibag on September 20, 2023, 12:43:47 AM
Thanks for letting me join this group! This big (almost 4” diameter) unsigned paperweight was found yesterday at a thrift shop. I picked it up as I love the look of it. Does anyone recognize who the maker may be?

Good find. I'm pretty positive it's Scottish. Possibly Paul Ysart or Vasart

Yes - a Paul Ysart paperweight.

Thanks! Judging by the dark glass dome, would this be a 1930’s example?

Hi

From the canes I would suggest 1940s.  I think you can find dark glass in any pieces made at Monart (ie made before his 1963 move to Caithness).  The 1930s  ones tend to go purple, rather than just get a dark tint.
