Hi all,
Just posting this for my neighbour. She bought these 2 huge glass bowls from a garage sale and wanted to find out about them. They appear to be flashed, a cross between amethyst and cranberry in colour. Thick gold enamel? decoration on both. Beautiful bowls/compotes but I couldn't help with who might have made them. She's also wondering about age? Any help appreciated. Even some correct search terms for me to have another look as I've found nothing like them.

Hello Selina............regret not able to add anything factual or positive, but as an off the cuff comment they make me think of Czechoslovakian possibly from the 1950 - 80 period. Some of the gilded and enamelled pieces shown in Mark Hill's small book have colours akin to your glass, and often these tourist pieces were decorated with gold banding etc.
Could be way off mark, but it's just a thought. :)

I would look at America. Can we have a close up of the gilded parts please.

I'll see if I can zoom in on the pics... the lady was Welsh/English and bought them over from the UK with her. And had them for a long time. UK is quite close to Europe obviously so thats why I thought Bohemian or Italian...

These are from the weekend, I can't get over there atm to take any more.

To me that looks Italian not Czech. Perhaps Barbini Martelago?

I think I've ruled out US. I half expected to see etching under the gold

Thank you Ivo, Christine :) I'll have another search. The gold is quite thick on both of them. The are quite ornate.
