Had this for a while, the marks to the base are very difficult to read, you can just make out Caithness and Scotland, after using a strong back light you can just make out 'Midsummer ......?' which I think says crocus, not in my book, does anyone know by who, I know Colin Terris did one similar called 'Daffodill'
-
What a pretty bottom! :)
I have absolutely not seen one like that before. Bottom, that is. I've seen an awful lot of big pink flowers. ;)
-
Thanks Sue, the Colin Terris was is very similar, it also has a beautiful bottom ! :o ;D ;D
-
So these are older rather than newer - and not terribly common. I'd have noticed the beautiful bottoms. I think they could be very closely related. :)
-
The Terris one is dated 1999 according to my book ;D
-
Hmm. About the time I started collecting. How long does it take for things to start turning up in the secondary market?
Does that depend on how "desirable" it is in the first place?
Nice stuff stays away for longer? ;)

I've found a pic of an example of Midsummer Crocus. ;D

Shame it doesn't give the designer, £70 odd dollars :o
-
My screen says £37.99, plus delivery.
No, no info, but it is an image of Midsummer Crocus - and the flower seems to be on the outside rather than the inside as well as constructed differently.
I did a search using Caithness Terris (and) Midsummer, to see what did appear.
That was the only thing surfaced that was anything like yours.
No daffs. ;)
But you know what? Midsummer is not the right season for either crocuses or daffs. :o
-
Hadn't thought of that, wonder if they did Midsummer snowdrops ! ::) ;D ;D
-
The "Midsummer" series of Collectable Eggs was designed by Colin Terris and issued in 1999 - see attached catalogue page. You'll also find these on Scotland's Glass (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=172&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6) (scroll down).

:) Thank-you so much for tracking that down Wuff.
So your weight is probably Violet, Keith.
I am a little confused - from the images it does look like the big named flower is inside the weight, but according to the info, they are hot worked on the surface.
Are the further cased in clear, after the hot surface working?
We are stuck in the position of having 2D images representing 3D things. And the photos in the catalogue show off the big flower well - but not the darker background and really beautiful bottoms. ;D
-
Thanks Wuff, yes I think your right Sue, Midsummer Violet ;D ;D

At the moment there is one on etsy with side views (https://www.etsy.com/de/listing/654633702/vintage-caithness-ei-glas?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=hand+made+glass+egg&ref=sr_gallery-2-4&frs=1).

Hi all,
I just wanted to mention that we have a past thread on the GMB on a related set of Caithness pedestal weights - see link below:
https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,30937.msg180787.html#msg180787
Wuff had started that one....
Those large pedestal weights are gorgeous, as the flowers are also engraved over the top. I have seen a few over the years and own the orchid version. Iif you have the possibility of getting one of these, I would strongly advise to 'bag it'.
I will try and post a photo of it soon.

Here it is!!
I concentrated on the engraved flower but you can see the torchwork orchids on both side.
