Post by: meenman on January 19, 2010, 01:47:50 AM
Hi I have another Mystery that I hope someone can help with. I need someone to help ID who made this vase. It is almost 9" tall 8" in dia. and it weighs 2.4 lbs. I know it's a pulegoso but I need to know who made it. It also listed this on the Ebay help site because I can load better pics easily there. Thanks Aundra.

Help with attaching pictures can be found here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html)

You can add as many as you want, just four at a time

The glass style and applied decor at the bottom lean me towards Bohemian.

Although most Beranek glass I have seen has some form of color in it, I would not be surprised if this is an early Beranek Bros. Piece.   Likely early to mid 1940's, possibly a little later.....  The extreme Pulegoso is characteristic of their work... Additionally, the glass surface appears to be a bit contaminated, and their early work was reported to have been made using peat in the ovens as fuel which resulted in some surface contamination visible on many examples. It is also reported that early production was made using recycled glass.

I took the liberty of copying 4 of your images and posting them here for you...

Mod - We may want to move this to Glass from Murano.

Thanks definitley for the photos. I looked up Beranek pulegoso and thought my vase looked more like the one below. Thanks again Aundra.

To my eye, the Italian piece they are showing, and those I am familiar with, is a more translucent glass, where yours and the Beranek are quite a bit more opaque. Additionally, the surface of the Italian piece appears to be quite a bit glossier, which I would associate with Italian glass, and the surface of yours, at least in the images, appears to be a little "flatter" or more satin like in the manner of a Beranek finish. Yours also appears, in the images, to have quite a bit more surface irregularity than I associate with Italian Puleguso.

The tadpoles also do not strike me as particularly Italian....

White Beranek can be tough to find images of, although they are out there. It can be tough from pictures, but I still lean towards Beranek.

If a mod moves this to Glass, we may get some other input.....

Closer in surface texture to yours, also in opacity, but the finish is much glossier.  Tough to say....
