Title: Uranium pressed glass bowl and etched lustre bowl
Post by: Anne E.B. on March 17, 2007, 04:46:19 PM
Phew, managed to add a link :o  ;D  I hope ;)

Any ideas what this large uranium pressed glass bowl is would  be much appreciated.  It has four sectioned horizontal ridges on the outside.  No markings.  I checked in Pamela's Museum for both bowls shown and they don't feature there and I've had a good scout round elsewhere, without success.  My own feeling is that this particular one is Czech.  ???

Not sure how to describe this bowl.  Kind of gold/honey lustre with etched foliage pattern and thick base with lots of wear.

Many TIA ;D

I think your first bowl is Sowerby. It's similar to the 'Elephant' dishes that have elephant heads as handles - this is, obviously, sans handles!

See my other site for a more detailed description:

Hi David ;D  I'd already looked in Glen and Stephen's Vol.2 which shows the elephant bowls pat.2614 which have frosted sections, but the nearest to mine is a fruit set 2677, shown in Illustrated List 38 (1956).  However, the horizontal bands are much wider and they are separated by four wide vertical panels, so I don't think it's Sowerby IMHO, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong ::) ;D
