Hi all glassies,
This is my first post, after many hours spent searching all the wonderful information you have all gathered in this one place.
I'm an avid glass collector and have had some pieces in my collection for years without being able to find out any information about makers etc. I just keep them because I enjoy them. A few weeks ago I stumbled across an ebay listed for a piece of glass that is very similar to one of my treasured mystery pieces.

My piece is a pale pink colour, and it gives a subtle glow under a blacklight.
Only mine has no "etling" mark.
Any suggestions? Could it be etling or could it be somebody else using an old etling mould?
Thanks for any help you can give. If its O.K I will list some other mysteries over the next few days. (I'm sure I'll get better at all this)

Hi Beryl Welcome to posting. I would hazard a guess and say yours is genuine if the other one is genuine. It seems to me that many manufacturers did not mark all their moulds for the same item. Yours has that subtle glow under UV associated with the use of manganese decoloriser, which can be an indicator of first half 20th century or earlier production. And BTW, it's not pate de verre just bog standard frosted pressed glass, even though of good quality.

I appreciate your response. I guess I have no way of knowing if the other piece on Ebay is genuine. I didn't even think of Etling as a maker until I saw that Ebay listing. I haven't seen any coloured Etling before. Is it common? I think of the decoration as Australian gumleafs and gumnuts, and bought it purely for its Australiana value. So I'm happy to believe it is a quality piece. Etling may not be of massive value, but I really like the designs and quality of the pieces I have seen.

Your bowl is certainly an Etling pattern, designed by Georges Beal. I've had a number of Etling pieces and not all appear marked, though often it is because the mark is very faint and not easy to spot. Sevres also reissued some of the Etling patterns though these will generally carry the Sevres acid stamped mark.

I've had another look at the base of my piece, and I can't find even the slightest hint of a mark. It is promising to know not all Etling is marked, however. Have you owned coloured Etling?

A reply to this old topic: it's really an Etling item, pattern number 100.
