Title: Genuine Paul Ysart?
Post by: zidori on March 29, 2007, 07:44:36 PM
Another recent acquisition, but is it the genuine article. It doesn't look like the fake PY cane to me but I am no expert.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ronnie

Personally, I'd like to see a MUCH bigger picture of the PY cane in close-up before giving an opinion!

Of course - silly me! It's like the base shots of paperweights and vases, I always forget about them - too transfixed with the main delight. I will arrange to have a bigger pic of the PY cane loaded on for your perusal. Thank you for your prompt response.

This is a genuine PY weight. The signature cane is ok, even though it can't be seen in detail in the main photo. All other features are good too.

Apologies for delay but I was waiting for daylight and better lighting. Here is a close up of the PY cane.
Thanks Kevin for your kind response. It is very reassuring to have that confirmed by an expert.

Thanks for that, Ronnie.  Now I can be a real clever-clogs and say, "Oh, yes! It's obvious to me that this is a genuine Paul Ysart cane!"  ;) >:D

Actually, I would have said that I thought it looked genuine, anyway.  (Simply because Kevin has previously told me what to look for! ;D)

Thank you Leni. I still have to ask for help but next time I should be more self-sufficient now that I have one genuine and one fake weight with PY cane.

As a general point for PY signature canes, if the outer green sleeve appears to be smooth (although it is actually cogged, with many ribs), then it's an ok one. Where there is a cearly visible cogged outer sleeve, check the colour of the "p" and the "y" - if the "p" is orange, it's one of the fake ones.
