I just wanted to share photos of my new water set! What is so unusual about it is that it is the first vaseline glass that Richard Golding has made at Okra glass. A friend of mine visited Richard over a year ago and asked him to make a water set out of vaseline glass. Richard had never worked with vaseline/uranium glass before and had no resources for cullet. He was able to acquire some and this is the result. Not only had Richard never made vaseline glass before, but he had also never made a water set before! The person who had this commissioned decided (after receiving it), that it just did not fit into their collection, as they only collect vaseline opalescent/primrose pearline glass. According to the person who had this water set commissioned, If the glass does not have a creamy top edge, it just looked out of place in the rest of their collection. When the owner told me this, I offered to buy it from them, knowing what an important set this was. We agreed on a price in October 2006, and then I drove out in Feb. 2007 to pick it up, as I did not want to risk the post office playing football with any of the boxes. There are 7 water glasses and one pitcher, with attached clear handle. The original order was for 6 glasses and the pitcher, and (I guess) Richard made an extra tumbler in case one did not make the trip from England to the USA. The pattern most represents Okra's APPLE BLOSSOM pattern, with the little flowers worked into the design. The glass is very irridescent. Please notice how the sunlight picked up on some of the irredescent area (turning it a fiery gold) on the tumbler on the far left. All of the color you see is glass (None of this is painted.) The second link shows the pitcher and one tumbler under a UV blacklight. the entire pitcher glows, but I had a tough time getting it to photograph correctly. Each tumbler and the pitcher is signed OKRA 2006 RICHARD P. GOLDING. Due to each piece being made individually, the tumblers vary slightly in height as compared to the other tumblers. It is by far the most expensive purchase I have ever made in my collection, but I thought it was so special, I just had to have it!

The set is gorgeous, Dave! Congratulations on a wonderful acquisition. :)
I love the streaky iridescent glass. I have been longing for an Okra perfume bottle. ;)

I think I would have set up a new display area just for these if they didn't blend with the other collection.
No accounting for folks...

I got to go to Richard's shop in Stourbridge in May 2004 (quite a trek from Oklahoma USA) and found that his shop is in an outbuilding behind his house. Having been to his shop was an added incentive to add this treasure to the collection.

OMG I want it. I collect Okra. Dave went and bought me a piece from Richard persoally a few years ago and got a personal guided tour! Connie, I have a perfume bottle but sadly not for sale. I also have a very early paperweight of his signed but not like his recent glass. All the irridescence is cased inside clear. Nothing as nice as the water set though.

Good grief, that is breathtakingly beautiful, Dave! It's not often I say WOW! but I did with that. What a fabulous set to be able to own - and how bizarre not to want it! ::) Congratulations on having been able to rescue it. 8)

I have a few pieces of Okra but that really knocks them all waaaay into touch. Fantastic.
