Title: Old Champagne glass?
Post by: david31162 on April 08, 2005, 04:30:58 PM
Can anyone identify this for me. Is it a champagne glass?
It is 8cm high, has a folded foot and there is a raised 'bump'in the centre of the bowl where the stem joins.

David, It looks more like the shape of my son's rummer (roemer) glasses than a champagne one, but my experience isn't wide enough to know if champagnes were ever made in this shape.  I wonder if the size would be a little small for a champagne glass though?

You still got this glass, do you want to sell it? Its dating to c1750 with ball knop stem, most probably port glass. Cheers

Unless of course it is a copy by Simon Pierce in Ireland, who was inspired by this period. I think Jan Mollmark of Dartington Glass joined him for a while before going to the States?- but probably is antique!
