Hiya,
Can anyone help ID this rose bowl-type vase?
It's orange thinly cased in clear and has a metal cover.

I suspect Czech because of the shape of the foot. They usually have a splatter decoration. Anyone agree?

Yes, definitely Czech, from the period 1918-1939.
Good that you've got the metal flower holder as these are often missing. I have 3 or 4 like this in different colours & spatter without the metal fittings. ::)

:'( I sold my one of these at a garage sale about 10 years ago, in Dunedin, because Paul told me it looked like the vases they leave on graves ::). It was yellow and came complete with the metal flower holder. Oh well. Anyway, I like the spatter glass ones better. Marinka (or anyone else), are there any books which cover Czech glass of this era?

sorry it took me so long to reply on this topic but I've been away on a holiday to the South Island of New Zealand (including Dunedin) for the last two weeks, & I've only just got back & now I've got loads of emails to answer!
I do like this type of glass a lot & one can often still find it on the cheap. It does make a wonderfully colourful display. I have mine in an art deco cabinet & the bright reds, oranges & yellows really make a statement.
In answer to your question about reference books on Czech glass of this type, I recommend "Made in Czechoslovakia" by Ruth A. Forsythe. It is well illustrated with loads of good colour pics of 1918-1939 era Czech glass of the "Tango" variety. However, it is pretty lean on actual information on the makers of said glass, but strong on the eye candy factor.
For more substance I suggest "Collectible Bohemian Glass II" by Robert & Deborah Truitt. This is very well-researched & has detailed info on makers & designers.
Both are out of print but not hard to find.
