Title: Mystery vase
Post by: aa on April 16, 2007, 09:13:16 PM

I bought this at the weekend at a fair in Winchester. This vase is about 8" diameter and was sold to me as French 1930's. I'm not so sure.....does anybody recognise it? The ripples are hand cut, not moulded.

Thanks. :)

Nice pics, Adam. Shame the cutter couldn't get the lines straight.

Does anyone have a copy of "Glass of the Avant-Garde: From Vienna Secession to Bauhaus" ?

I saw the exhibition in New York and the vase reminded me of one some of the pieces on show. An Austrian engraver whose name escapes me but might begin with A.

Brilliant! Model was the name I had in the back of my mind but the trouble was that I couldn't remember the name!! Thanks very much, Dirk. Having an id now helps but I can't find much on line about the studio. I think I saw early 20th century work by the father? grandfather? in an exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt a few years ago......

enlighten me!

except for this http://www.artnet.de/artists/lotdetailpage.aspx?lot_id=36C17C9D915F6FD7603A52A60FE93B58

which is the sort of thing I remembered from "Glass of the Avant-Garde: From Vienna Secession to Bauhaus"  at the Cooper Hewitt. Where's the emoticon for "still kicking myself for being such an idiot not to buy the catalogue"  :rn:

hi Adam,
wish i could be a bit more of help...
found your vase while looking at your nice duck family. the name Reiner Model was
vaguely imprinted on my head´s harddrive - probably from an old auction or similar.
unfortunately i can´t provide any further information...
you´ve noticed the credit liveauctioneers have given? i´ve just decided this is a
wonderful day to buy a new book!  ;)

Hello everyone. By coincidence, I noticed a somewhat similar vase on ebay.de if this may be worth comparing: Item number 380132430406   Reiner Model Stuttgart Kugelvase um 1980 ... just thought it worth mentioning as possibly of interest, seems to support the Stuttgart suggestion,

yours,
