Title: Art glass basket - description help, please.
Post by: uphoosier on April 21, 2007, 08:47:22 PM
I'm not sure what to call this green to opalescent to red shading.  Opinions are most appreciated.  Of course, if you'd like to comment about maker and or origin, I'd be pleased to know that also.  Thanks for looking.

I'd say very pretty!  I bet it's uranium, probably English, probably Stourbridge.  Wouldn't like to guess which glasshouse, as lots of them did this sort of basket with applied flowers.

Some people call any green to pink shading 'Rubina Verde', but really this isn't shaded like that, it's green to opalescent shading, with a cranberry pink rim applied.

I like it!  Nice one!  :D

Thanks, Leni.  The auctioneer called it rubina verde, but I didn't think so with the opalescent in there.  That was also throwing me off the Stourbridge thing too.  We see a lot of the applied flower English glass over here, but I couldn't recall seeing any that was opalescent.
