Title: Double Overlay Tankard - Help with Id Please
Post by: SimonD on April 22, 2007, 10:23:06 AM
I have a glass double overlay (blue over white over clear) tankard that I would like help identifying. Book references or book recommendations would also be welcome, as I have had difficulty locating information on European glass of this era.

It is quite unusual in that the cutting is in an architectural style, with a lovely detailed lid to match. The thumblift is a delightful detail. Originally there would have been a metal hinge connecting the thumblift to the handle, but this has been skillfully removed (without damaging the glass.) It is in reasonable condition, though there is some wear to the base. It's height is 7 1/2 inches high (to top of thumb lift) and 5 1/2 inches wide across base.

Any information on country of origin, maker and age would be greatly appreciated.

I should think this beerstein (or beer stein) is probably Bohemian.  If you Google Images:  Bohemian Beerstein you should get something similar up.   :)
