I managed to buy a pair of these yesterday, but only to find when I went to pick them up after paying that one had some damage. I can't say if its something I missed or happened during viewing >:(
However one is fine, the base colour is amethyst and the pattern has the most wondeful irridescent hues of gold and green.
They were on a wall once as they both have wire around the bases on the back

Its not for me as it is not green, but I do like it.

I have just found the pattern "Hearts and Flowers" by Northwood. But is it in amethyst /purple or amethyst/black (and how can you tell?)

Lovely Barbara. In fact "Hearts and Flowers" is one of my favourites. We have several examples of it - the best is possibly the green plate, but our daughter (who has her name on ALL our H&F pieces :o) likes the ice blue bowl the most. We also have an aqua opal comport which is very, very pretty. We also have a bowl like yours, in purple, but it has a chunk off the rim. It was only a fiver so I don't mind and we use it when we do talks. I like to call it "Broken Hearts and Flowers" (sob :-[)
So, what's the colour of yours?
Is it in amethyst /purple or amethyst/black (and how can you tell?)
It's most likely purple, which is a deep and rich colour like dark grape juice. Black amethyst is very hard to find - and when you hold it to a strong light (a really strong white light) there is only a tiny glow of purple to be seen.
Congratulations on two splendid pieces.

Hi Glen,
It is really pretty, and using the "grey matter" for once, quite easy to find the pattern, not like some which are very obscure ;)
My middle daughter has dips on the Carnival glass collection, but none want the other bits. She is a very "girly" girl though (she wanted some wellies, but would only have pink :o) ) and it looks lovely in the sunshine on the shelves.
The colour is definately purple, a stunning deep colour, and the one which is poorly has a couple of ruffles broken off, which I know were there when viewing >:D
Will take a photo on the phone next time, to prove my case!
