Hiya, this isn't my vase (or photographs) but the person who owns this has asked me to post it up here in the hope that someone can help with an ID. It is etched with the figure of a little boy and there is a signature and something else on the base - we think one of them says something 'Karlsen'. The photographs are not mine and, although clear they may be a little small however if you could have a look and let me have any thoughts at all the owner would be grateful (I'm also curious myself)... TIA

bumpetty bump ;D
No ideas on the siggy?
-
Not my area, but the sig looks like L Klower - or Flower? And J Karlsen. Not sure if this is any help :-\
-
That does help Leni - thanks.

Klöwer (kloewer) Karlsen are both Danish. Perhaps an independant engraver, blank could be Danish. Pictures are rather small though.
-
Yes they are rather small - sorry about that but they're not mine unfortunately. I'll tell the owner what you said about the vase though - cheers Frank.

Hi, this is Shannon (the owner of the vase). Those were actually my thumbnail pics! Here are the full size photos:

Thanks for creating this thread for me pip!
For anyone giving it another look...I don't know if you can tell in the pics, but the base has controlled bubbles. Thanks for any leads you can give me!

Also, I think the first siggy is L. Klöner. Other one...J. Karlsen? T. Karlsen? F. Karlsen? They look like they are in the same hand. Is that strange?
Thanks again,
Shannon

Hi Shannon - the big pictures are much clearer, thanks for that. Hopefully someone will come along soon with some relevant information. Sometimes though it's not immediate and information can turn up in days, weeks or even months so keep checking back from time to time and don't give up!

This was posted here ages and ages ago, and someone suggested it might be Danish, because the names appear to be Danish. I would like to give it another try for ID. It has a double ground and indented base, and there is a ring of controlled bubbles. The glass is thick and heavy, and the vase is about 7" tall. Thanks!

Hi Shannon You're welcome to bring things to our attention again but you don't need to post again, just reply to your original thread to take it back to the top again. Moderator please, here's the original thread http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,13955.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,13955.0.html)

Wild guess....real wild...but could the second name be: S. C. karlsen....prehaps they over-lapped the C on the S when they wrote it....just a guess :-\

The shape and controlled bubbles suggest Swedish or Norwegian to me,
the names don't really ring a bell, then again I know next to nothing about
scandinavian engravers.

Found details for a Danish glass artist called Jørgen Karlsen, although it's unlikely to be the same (possibly) J. Karlsen as signed on the vase, as this one seems to work only in kiln-formed glass.
But you never know! His contact details are here: http://www.glasnettet.dk/studio.asp?id=181
My own instinct is that the vase may be European - the shape and controlled bubbles remind me of vases I've seen that pop up regularly on German eBay.
