I just acquired this wonderful Heckert goblet, but it does confuse me. The glass is crystal. It has been stained a mottled amber, I think to mimic tortoise shell. Looking at the bottom picture, you can see the stain was applied after the enameling was done, as evidenced by the white back of the enamel. How was this done without staning the enamel?

Enamel is glass that has been fused to the body by heat. Cold decoration would not affect it.
