Title: Glacier wine / sherry glasses
Post by: josordoni on May 16, 2007, 01:53:56 PM
Does anyone have the heights of the Glacier wine glasses please? I have a round decanter with 6 glasses that I think are probably sherry, but I don't know the heights to check if they are small wine instead.

Thanks!

Sorry Lynne, I've had a look about online but no measurements unfortunately.  I had the same problem when I was trying to identify some glacier tumblers a while back.

Thanks Pip, David (Vidfletch) suggested on the Whitefriars board that I check out the capacity, which is around 4fl.

I then discovered that 4 fl oz = roughly 110 ml. A standard pub white wine measure is 125 ml, so these must be sherry glasses.

Now another thing, the stem on one of the 6 is much much wider than the others...the height of the stem, and of the bowl is exact to the others, so I would expect that to be a proper set. But is the stem variation a normal thing? I presume the bowl is mould blown and the rest freeblown?

You can see the gallery of the set here (http://www.clarkagency.co.uk/clicpicmay/GLACIER_SHERRY_GLASSES/_local_GLACIER_SHERRY_GLASSES.htm):

The thick one is at the front, far left.
Thanks
Lynne
