Title: walther? lamp base

go this one today but i'm not sure who the makers was, it stands about 14" high with the fitting

hi Pamela

it's defo not new, a lot of wear on the base, the lady had it for well over 40yrs +, i will keep looking

The bulb holder is a replacement, why does it not screw down... wrong thread size is most likely... so lose that holder. Modern lamps use the same thread size globally and I have never found out when that standard was established but certainly I have encountered lots of thread sizes from the twenties and thirties. You should be able to find old ones at boot fairs etc. and Christopher Wray sell the earth connectors they would need to make them legal. But get switchless ones as switched might still be illegal. They also sell thread adapters for matching old to new threads.

The colour of the brass of the ferrule is a good indicator of age as brass has gotten golder over time due to gradual reduction of copper content and possibly other content changes.

Your thread also looks like bronze with good natural patina which is another indicator of age.

Can you add base and close up of the top without the new bit please.

here we go Frank, by the looks it has been silver plated at one time, it been stuck on with plaster paris

Definitely a good 1910-30's period example. Base of the lamp might help identification of the glass.

The base might be a clue, has anyone else got items with such a base?
