Title: blue milk glass pot - unknown maker
Post by: josordoni on May 29, 2007, 04:23:01 PM
Any light to be cast on this pot?
I wondered if it might be rather more modern, made to look older?

Hi Lynne,
I guess this is Czech, (tho what would I know  ::)) probably a modern re-make of an item from Hoffmann/Schlevogt and possibly the best candidate, Frantisek Halama. Looks like a modern Halama item though.
A bit pressed, other-wise I'd try to track it exactly. Again, have a look at Seigmar Geiselberger's site, there is an English language paper on Halama and other knock-offs.
Regards,
Marcus

Hi Lynne, Marcus is absolutely right as always  The exact design cannot be traced in Hoffmann/Schlevogt catalogues. The colour is 'Lapis'. Besides Halama, Desna comes to mind. Desna nowadays produces in the old forms marking correctly DESNA and selling as design of Hoffmann/Schlevogt. This seems the utmost Mrs. Ingrid Schlevogt, Paris was able to negotiate lately...
This information is given without knowing the whole story for sure!  :-\

Thank you both!  There is no doubt, this piece does not have any of the lightness of touch of the older pieces I have in the same batch.  Pamela, you mentioned that Desna signs its pieces now - did they also produce earlier with no signature?  This piece is completely unsigned.

There is a gallery of other views here  (http://clarkagency.co.uk/clicpicmay/blue_opal_pot/_local_blue_opal_pot.htm)which shows the inside of the lid, which I reckon is a major giveaway to being less than old...
