This topic has been edited from the "Best piece in your Murano collection" Topic....
This is Cathy's photo of her Murano collection, of which the small Venini Egg timer started this discussion about the "Incalmo" Technique.

I'm so happy! These are GREAT pieces! I'm a bit of a Murano girl at heart you see. :D
I think (Javier might correct me) that Cathys smaller eggtimer is incalmo, which is a terribly difficult technique...how super to own one!....
Hi Max,
I am not sure, but I think the Egg timers are made in 2 separate pieces (anyone, please let me know if Im wrong), so I dont think they would be called incalmo. If they are 1 piece, them I would think so.

Isn't incalmo two separate blown pieces umm...sort of 'hot fused' together? Hold on...Venini's site says:
Incalmo: A highly difficult technique that consists of joining two blown glass shapes of identical diameter while hot, so as to obtain a single object composed of different parts, usually made of different colours.
That does sounds like the egg-timers doesn't it? Well, unless they're joined in another way? :? :? I love the look it achieves anyway, especially in cylinder vases.

Hi Max,
Guess I should have explained myself a little better.
I think the egg timers are made in 2 separate pieces and then put together after cooled. I think that is how they can put the sand inside. "Incalmo" would be done while hot, and fuse the 2 glass pieces together.

LOLOL! Quite so Javier! Stupid me! (http://www.smileys.ws/sm/action/00000061.gif)

I believe the sand was added after the piece was blown. That's why they have holes with cork stoppers. The Incalmo technique makes sense to me. I've seen pieces put together after cooling and these pieces don't look put together their all one piece.

Thanks for clearing that up Cathy.
If anyone else has samples of "Incalmo" pieces, or wants to add to our discussion, clearify, or just put your 2 cents in, please do!

Here's another sample of the Incalmo technique

Lovely vase Javier! Who was the maker? Will you let me know if you have some Venini for sale? As long as it's a small piece and vaguely affordable.... :D

Have a look at Javier's website! He's got some super pieces  Don't know what you would call affordable though
I especially like the Tyra Lundgren leaf / feather! :D And the Archimede Seguso 'Bollicine' piece is superb! :D But it's pink, so you won't like it
And as for the Sommerso Cranberry pink VALVA bowl - yes, that *is* the correct spelling!   - you'll HATE that!
OK, OK, I'm going :P

I want VENINI!!  <stamps very tiny and elegant foot>
As an irrelevant footnote, the lovely Peter had a piece of glass that made me get all emotional....It was a cased bowl with layers of lattimo and bubbles in white, gold and PINK! I said, between blubbing, that it was like 'a baby's ear'. Mind you, it'd be a blooming BIG baby, as it was HUGE!

In that case, you'll *love* the Archimede Seguso 'Bollicine' bowl / plate on Javier's site
It ain't an ear, but it's quite 'anatomical' - IMHO   - and totally gorgeous

On the topic of incalmo, I wonder if anyone can help me out with this piece ?
I've recently bought this piece on Ebay (in fact it's in the post at the moment) and wondered if anyone is able to hazard an attribution ?
It resembles (to my entirely unbiased eyes  !) the picture of two glasses by Riccardo Liccata on Angela's site http://www.glass.co.nz/Venini.htm - half way down.
Thoughts anyone ?

Interesting piece of glass Taylog.
You might (correct me if I'm wrong here) get more attention for your item if you start a new thread. Otherwise it's possible only the people 'watching' this thread will see it.
If I'm right, perhaps Frank could move this? :)

Hi Cathy and Max,
Thanks for the comments on the Vase. I am not sure about attribution yet, but think it is a Seguso piece because of the colors used.
And Max, on Venini pieces, I do have other Signed pieces but they arent for sale  I think they are too nice to give up at the moment.
Hi Taylog1
Cool vase, is it controlled bubbles inside the white?
You can certainly post it on a new thread, just let me know and I can change it.
