Can anyone tell me what this little 'beauty' is please? :wink: 9" high with three clear feet. I seem to recall seeing one of these in the long distant past, but cannot remember who the maker was. I think it dates back to the 60s or thereabouts. Many thanks for any help you can give :lol:

Anne...it looks very recent to me. I did have a quick look at Heron Glass, I thought perhaps it might be them, but came up with nothing from their site.
Someone on the boards lives near Heron Glass I think....

Thanks Max :D . I've never heard of Heron Glass. If anyone knows anything about them, I'd be interested to hear more. I once saw one of these pieces on well known internet auction site described as being Riihimaki! I think not! :roll: but it would be interesting to know what it actually is, even though I don't particularly like it. :? I recently had another strange organic looking piece of glass that I thought might be Murano. Turned out to be Avondale Glass (Wales). Its a minefield out there!

I've never heard of Heron Glass. If anyone knows anything about them, I'd be interested to hear more. Anne :P
They are in Ulverston, Anne. It's one of the places I want to go visit sometime soon - perhaps it should be a Northern Glassies trip? Anyone interested? Heron Glass and Cumbria Crystal are side by side at the Lakes Glass Centre in Ulverston. They have a website here: http://www.lakesglasscentre.co.uk/
It's Ray who lives near there Max, although I'm about 1/2 an hour away by car, if that.

Thanks for the link Anne. :D I still haven't identified my three legged beastie :twisted: , but spotted a mushroom paperweight on the Heron site that looks very similar to one of mine. Unfortunately Heron don't give actual measurements, and mine is 2.75" high. I think another company made similar looking mushroom paperweights, but cannot remember who it was. :oops: The only thing that concerns me a little is that the stem of mine looks thicker at the top, and the white "splodges" are more rounded compared to the rather stretched looking ones on Heron's. Perhaps a paperweight expert might know?

I found one that's a similar shape to yours on Angela's Glass Encyclopaedia website, by Joe Rice. I wondered if yours could be by him also?

:D I think some of John Ditchfield's mushrooms are quite like Heron Glass - a bit darker, perhaps.

Looking through the paperweight website I posted earlier into the Paperweight forum which has Joe Rice pieces in I see they have an impressed signature, so assume his mushrooms would have the same. Disregard my Joe Rice suggestion. ;)

T'other Anne's mushroom paperweight is difficult to pin down to a specific maker as many companies in many countries have made them. They are one of the simpler gift items to produce in quantity.
I agree that any Joe Rice item ought to be marked as such.

:D Hello, Anne E.B. Mdina make mushrooms and do white splodges just like your mushroom, but I've not seem one with the clear base and underside like yours, which doesn't mean to say they didn't do one like that! :?
